I genuinely never understood this sentence.
This is obviously supposed to be some sort of derogatory thing but as someone who lived in tokyo for a while and is planning to move back soon I can't be thankful enough that I'll never be "japanese".
Unless you're exceptionally lucky, work culture in japan sucks ass and the only thing that makes your average place tolerable is that you get special treatment for being a foreigner. If you speak japanese and you're not an incorrigible asshole, you'll sometimes even get better treatment than most japanese get.

Boo hoo. Move to a small rural town if you want to get headpats for speaking japanese.
