Boy, 11, died in Slovakia from "American brain amoeba"
Naegleria, which has been thought to live only in one pond in USA, was somehow infecting Slovak boy. He died despite treatment. The amoeba enjoys +25 degree fresh water in summers and its around that time when people swimming in USA are at risk of getting water in their noses.
The amoeba travels through the nose to the brain. It drills itself all the way to the brain once it has penetrated nose as far as water goes. It might take several days before its inside the brian.

Could the amoeba thrive in Finland as well?
The answer is "maybe". We know nothing about it, while its living in lakes, only what happens once it is inhabiting peoples brain.
Just how high the risk is anyway?
>so far 167 people have died from Naegleria infection and the organism was found in late 1960s
