Only in gloom maps could you say that ground forces are necessary but Eagle-1 could recon and drop strat markers on anything that isn't an anti-air emplacement.
You can make an argument for the galactic war being about population thinning and maintaining a prosperous military industrial complex but at the end of the day it's a video game and is as arbitrary as Fortnite in it's functions, just with a realistic artstyle.
