There have been multiple instances of a Christ-like figure coming to wayward civilizations to teach godliness. God walking the Earth in the flesh of a man with extraordinary powers, trying to bring the most wayward people back to the path of righteousness and goodness. Osiris, Dionysus, Quetzalcoatl, Horus, Krishna, Zeus, Odin, Siddhartha Gautama Jesus Christ - it's all the same story. I believe the Japanese Buddhism was Japan's closest instance of that.
