base dsi or dsi xl depending on how big you want
base dsi has bigger and nicer screens than the lite
and you can get custom firmware for it easily by just putting a few files on the sd card and then play games from it
ds lite is fine though too if you like the aesthetic more but the original ds has terrible dark screens

idk but for me its the base dsi

playing on a dsi is much better for ds games though
the dpad placement of the 3ds is trash and the screen is much worse when playing in ds mode
