If you have a tabletop game based on multiple universes colliding and coming through portals into the real world; how do you make the disparate elements of these realms and realities interesting and unique without it seeming just like crossover slop or having the strangeness fade into the background?

I'm trying to do a post-apocalypse sort of gonzo setting with STALKER anomolies and weird beings from other worlds, but not in a retarded way, unlike RIFTS.
