Many male authors write lesbians because 1) it is progressive 2) because of personal appeal. You will notice that men, unless gay, don't really write homosexual men and their relationship; women are the ones who tend to do that, either as a fetish (yaoi) or not (some shojo manga).

Ultimately, homosexual relationships still feel taboo so writers feel they are doing something by breaking the rules.


As an example, Toby Fox in Undertale and Deltarune has homosexual characters, but only the female ones are main characters. The gay men are minor characters.
