Tbf, a lone Fire Warrior will beat a lone Tempestus Scion in most matchups on the tabletop.

Now, it's true that the Tau have kinda lame accuracy on their own (only as much as an average Guardsmen) but you're supposed to be pairing them up with markerlights which gives them a nice accuracy boost. Plus their range is pretty superb too so they'll be firing well before a Guardsmen gets into range to return fire.

Tau are all about synergy. If Firewarriors are facing Guardsmen without air support, drone support, pathfinder recon and markerlights, etc. something has gone seriously wrong. They'll still probably win but...something has still gone wrong.

So the appeal of the Imperial Guard and the appeal of the Tau is pretty similar? Both are largely conventional militaries that handle the existence of horrifying demons from hell through superior firepower. It just comes down to a quantity vs quality debate between them.

Another reason to assume that Tau technological 'superiority' is nothing but propaganda is that we never actually see it in action anywhere.

Tau Barracuda fighters? About as good as Imperium Lightning fighters.

Tau Hammerhead tanks? About as good as Imperium Leman Russ tanks.

Tau spaceships? Usually inferior to Imperium spaceships.

Sure, the Tau Fire Warrior is probably a little better than an Imperial Guardsman on average.....but that's because the Tau bother to give their infantry the good stuff. If the Imperium bothered to give the Imperial Guard all Carapace Armor and the best rifles they can make they would absolutely be more than a match for Fire Warriors too.

Probably the only area where the Tau actually exceed the Imperium in anything is tactics. But that's about it.

spells aren't even that fast even if you throw hex around without verbally giving the order. What's a wand gonna do against a power suit equipped with two minigun. A combat helicopter? Better yet infiltrate and steal intel to turn magic against the wizard society. Convert magic users into becoming war machines using both magic and enhanced body parts, it's not one unified block there's a lot of bad blood between magic groups so use that fracture to wiggle yourself into inner circles and create havock.

Wanna know what's the biggest weakness of those fags? They're so arrogant they don't know shit about how "normal" people live and survive, they're completely clueless about technology and think isolationism and mind scrambling fields around their towns will keep them safe forever. They're not taking into account the neck breaking speed at which military tech is evolving.
