I am very lazy.
The consumption has not filled the emptiness in me.
I am too paranoid about being a bad person in social situations to go to the LGS to game.
As much as I love the Warhammer 40k setting, I have grown to dislike much of the fandom.

Egon Castovean, Chapter Master of the Penitent Wings

Egon brought his sword around in a devastating swing, the pommel striking Heraghasโ€™ head in such a blow that broke his terrible helm, fragments of tainted ceramite falling to the ground as the Word Bearer fell to his knees, blood splattering across the scorched stones. Egon scoffed in disdain, reaching down and clutching the traitorโ€™s head within his grasp, hoisting Heraghas up from the ground.

โ€œMany are the tales of your blasphemous deeds, and many more of great warriors slain by your blade. Tales of a despotic champion of the Dark Gods that destroys all as he wills.โ€

With that the Egon rose his sword up high, bringing it down in a mighty arc that cleaved the Word Bearerโ€™s wretched head from his shoulders.

โ€œYou could imagine my disappointment.โ€

I never gave even a single cent of my money to GW directly, I always scalped off ebay or bought recasts/proxies
I only went to a LGS twice in my life, my playmates are just old friends
I masturbated for like a month (like once every 2 days that would come up in my head) to the thought of fucking a slaneeshi daemonhost when I was roughly 15-16. She would cackle and scream very loudly in incomprehensible mixed between sadness and pleasure. Probably one of the reasons why I like bondage now
I personally despise the ghastly Horus Heresy rigamarole and I beliege the book series paved the way to fucking the setting up

I mean it could be worse. You could have bought a whole library of items and a whole studio's worth of paint and supplies and still not painted an army. I'm referring to that Tweet meme picture of a guy having a whole hallway of 40k boxes that sometimes gets posted here.

In a way you kind of decided to play it comically cautious when it comes to finances.

I didn't really do that. I got a box of Cadians and then got my first job to afford Warhammer 40k. Minimum wage kind of works when you're not paying bills as a high schooler. Unfortunately while I did consume product, I did not paint product.

I'm not sure if I'm meant to look at him as a tragic mentally far-gone man, who bits humanity in him but still a monster and a shell of his former self.
Or if I'm meant to see him as the batshit retarded and crazy idiot who just kills people because he got flung to the galactic equivelant of Detroit/Chigago and got mindbroken by all of it.

It's pretty obvious that's the direction the wind is blowing currently.
Daemons in 40k are genuinely an afterthought as an army. They were originally part of the same book with the CSM but then GW did the stupid idea of listening to chaosfags and separated daemons and CSM.
Even though the whole point of the army was that, yes, CSM can't use all the same shit loyalist marines could, but they made up for it by having daemons and daemon engines and other daemonic powers.

A range of 40k space slanni can be made perfectly distinct from the fantasy aos seraphon, simply by focusing on the old frogs instead of dinosaurs or lizardmen servants.
Especially if they get to showcase a more variegated extravaganza of other servants and allies instead.

But I'm fine with gw never touching them, at this point I have perhaps more than enough slanni.

That's not enough for GW.
This same argument could be used for beastmen as well and GW still decided "Fuck you, we are cutting them out of AoS and then shoving them into TOW"

Also you're trying to use logic with GW, ie. where there is none.
The fact is, GW doesn't want competing model ranges that are too similiar, no matter the consequences or if it makes sense.

The problem with spray and legs is that I have to spin the model slowly to get every bit of every leg. It pools towards the torso. It sticks too well.

So after all that, I have to take a brush and pull it off the model. It's faster to loosen the prime with water and 'speedpaint it' onto the model. I get five done for every one I have to fiddle with an airbrush with, and less air contamination. These models reaaaaally do not like being primed from their underside.

Yes, it is, they have a number of ranges that are way closer to one another than this would be.

Beastmen were removed from aos because they didn't have another separate range ready for them, they can, and I think will, eventually make a new range of aos distinct beastmen, especially if they focus on morghur and mutants and spawns rather than satyrs and centaurs and minotaurs.

A Lasgun is a very good weapon anon. It hits harder than a .50 cal, which is more than enough to kill most infantry in the setting, and you can get even more powerful variants of the Lasgun. The Lasgun is super easy for logistics, since it can be recharged from any power source, even a campfire or the sun, and you can throw the power packs as grenades. It has no recoil, and is extremely easy to learn.

By contrast, the Pulse Rifle just a weaker plasma gun, with recoil, that uses ammo, is fragile and has shitty logistics, and is unwieldy to use.

Even though I listbuild and dictate my purchases around what I want for my army lists, I've never played a single physical game of 40k in the two years or so I've been building and painting.

I have over 2k points of Guard, with World Eaters and Imperial Knights close approaching. I also got a bunch of various Kill Teams and thanks to subbing to the Combat Patrol magazine and a few other purchases I now have close to 1k points in Marines. Part of the reason why I bought into the Combat Patrol magazine was to have an easy on-board for getting people in my friend group to play, but only like two people have voiced mild interest on learning how to play. Despite having so many minis I've only ever done one game via Tabletop Simulator, and it was a 500 point match between Guard and a friend playing Custodes (I got rolled pretty hard because I forgot my army rule was a thing).

I don't take this as a total wash however, I really enjoy the modeling aspect of the hobby and enjoy painting/kitbashing minis so it all works out in the end.

It shows how advanced Imperium technology truly is. The Tau claim to be this advanced empire, but look at their technology.

Their pulse rifles? Inferior to lasguns.

Their combat armor? Maybe equivalent to carapace armor, but inferior to power armor.

Their battlesuits? Inferior to Titans.

Their spaceships? Inferior to Imperium equivalents.

Their FTL? Non-existent.

Their robots? Inferior to Imperium machine spirits.

Their Fire Warriors? Inferior to Imperial Guard.

Yeah stupid question indeed. I guess as a zero the Webway can't lead to specific places in the immaterium because there aren't specific places in the immaterium. Two in the realm of Immaterium material weapons aren't effective. Material weapons are only effective against deamons, because to enter the materium (the real world) they have to take on semi-physical forms. In the immaterium deamons and the gods they serve don't have to do this and so can't just be shot, or blown up.

Sure, the Imperium would like more Space Marines and Titans, who wouldn't? But they're not short of them. They have more than enough to handle all of their needs. They are a well-stocked, well-supplied, well-managed empire with near infinite supplies.

GW just runs with the "1 million worlds" shit because the writers thought that sounds impressive. Mind you that "worlds" means planets.
When in reality the Milkyway galaxy alone contains 100 BILLION stars within it, and that's the conservative estimate.
The number of planets that are theorized to exist within the Milkyway estimated to be aorund 100 BILLION to 400 BILLION, and again that's the conservative estimate.

Even population wise Imperium is all over the place.
The average hivecity contains anywhere 10 billion to 100 billion humans within them. And that is ONE (1) singular hivecity.

The most the Imperium has ever thought about the Tau was that one time Guilliman said their name off-hand during a conversation about how many enemies the Imperium has. And even then I wouldn't be surprised if the guy who mentioned the Tau to Guilliman was fired on the spot for wasting his time.

Newcrons were once slaves to the ctan but rebelled and sharded most of the ctan. Some dynasties can still fit old cron lore where multiple ctan shards have merged and become powerful enough to assert control, but most dynasties are doing their own things now.

The point of the tau is that they are a small and new faction that is just learning about the galaxy. If the imperium actually wanted to wipe out the Tau it could, but it doesn't really do that sort of thing without a good reason given how much shit it has to deal with

I think this is still canon but they canonically invaded Commorragh en masse once when Vect stole a space marine Strike Cruiser to get them to clap the shit out of the existing nobility. The imperium could probably wipe out a bunch (but of course not all) of the existing factions in the game

Anonymous No.96496179

The whole point with the tau is that, yes, Imperium could erase them from existance if they wanted to.
But Tau can, and will put up such a fight that it'd still require massive amounts of manpower and resources that it'd mean the Imperium would have to divert manpower and resources from other important regions and conflicts.
Which then leaves the said region "open" and vulnerable to be attacked, which will be exploited by all manners of other xenos and chaos forces.

Like for example Dark Eldar thrive in such conditions because Deldar prefer to attack weak and "soft" targets because they lack the stomach for protacted battles because their reason for real space raids is to get more slaves and resources into Commoragh. So more time they spend in an area raiding, more likely it is Imperium reinforces its territories again which will make raiding more difficult and dangerous and therefore less "profitable" for the Deldar.

This is the main reason why the Imperium can't "just wipe out the tau", it just doesn't work like that and it isn't so simple.

Silent King told everyone he can reverse the biotransferance and make everyone whole but he can't do that. I mean he could reverse it but Warriors would be gone and the Nobility would'nt be able to take their advanced AI minds with them to flesh bodies. Only their own degraded minds. 1. Necrons know nothing about souls and pyskers. Reversing biotransference would require high level biomancy and understanding of the soul
2. They don't have any necron DNA or understanding of the necron soul. So it would basically be like "becoming human, but with the memories of a necron/necrontyr." Still probably an upgrade

Tau Barracuda fighters? About as good as Imperium Lightning fighters.

Tau Hammerhead tanks? About as good as Imperium Leman Russ tanks.

Tau spaceships? Usually inferior to Imperium spaceships.

Sure, the Tau Fire Warrior is probably a little better than an Imperial Guardsman on average.....but that's because the Tau bother to give their infantry the good stuff. If the Imperium bothered to give the Imperial Guard all Carapace Armor and the best rifles they can make they would absolutely be more than a match for Fire Warriors too.

Compete disaster. No part of the basic mechanical process went as it did in the videos.

So fuck it, bad idea, too ambitious, even if it went well it would have massively added to how long it would take me to actually get this army tabletop ready. So it's scrapped and now I'm back to square one.

Shroud of Night - pure dumb cawadooty bolter porn about how cool and badass Alpha Legion are

Sons of the Hydra - classic AL, schemes and plans but with the twist that the AL themselves are so emmeshed in secrecy and schemes it has become deceptively easy to trick them

Renegades: Harrowmaster - very fun book about one AL guy being like, "guys, we're very good at being sneaky and tricky, but at some point we should try winning a war" and bringing together several warbands to go do that. The different warbands almost feel like intentional license for you to build an AL army that is dedicated to a god or has lots of tanks or whatever.

I don't think Brooks is bad, Kyme is bad because he writes incredibly unnecessarily long prose, his writing just meanders all over the goddamn place, taking a page to get across what a better writer could in a couple paragraphs. And his plotting is very bad. Just at the basic story structure of "thing A happens, causing thing B, but at the same time thing C is happening and they intersect leading to thing D" he sucks at that

So if you combine those two attributes, you get long, boring books. Reading them feels like wading through the shallow end of a pool. I have never actually finished one of his books without resorting to skimming. You can read a few sentences on each page and lose nothing.

Also I can't recall him ever creating an interesting character. Not one.

The the neat part. You don't. You use "Legends" rules.

Hey anons, tossing up between buying either Votann, Eldar or Blood Angels, for casual play with friends and maybe casual play in GW stores.

BA with one Imperial Knight ally would be my first preference, but I want the classic Rhino, classic Dreadnought and ideally Firstborn muhreens but I'll get Primaris if I can't get Firstborn at my LGS. Absolutely love the M113 look of the Rhino. The newer Dreadnoughts don't look as good as the Midhammer ones.

If I can't legally play those, or can't do it without it being too weak even for casual play, I'll go Votann/Eldar.

My question is:
>Can the Rhino be used with Primaris marines if I can't get Firstborn? Or is it just useless?
>Is the older Dreadnought still legal? If not, would people widely accept it being proxied for one of the newer ones? How much leeway do people usually give at GW stores?

If you really love firstborn marines just put them on the bigger base and model them with the primaris weapons.

You can always get recasts or secondhand for firstborn if not available at store

This. There's no reason you cant put the plasma canon on a guy and use the datasheet for the plasmabliterator or whatever dumb primarishit equivelent exists.

Not really. Their special rule is about closing distance to melee, and their melee loadout with the fists and chainsaws and two pistols (they keep the regular one and get a heavy pistol as well) is better than rifles. There are other units in the SM codex specialised for ranged fighting to fill that niche, and you can use the spare bits in your crusader box or an upgrade sprue to bling them out.
