To preface: any community that gets it laughs by pretending to be idiots etc.
The ineffectual hippie approach to resolve problems lead to punks.
The ineffectual punk approach to solve problems lead to slackers.
The ineffectual slacker irony laden self-defeatist approach to refuse to care or recognize any solution to problems since nothing before seemed to work lead to those raised under the ill-informed, ill-prepared, ill-equipped, post-irony approach.
So much further down the ditch of inaction are they than their hippie and slacker predecessors they can't recognize problems on their own and wholly refuse to cede them when they're presented by another, because of discomfort or conditioning it becomes much easier to relabel a problem as not only no problem at all but even a pleasantness.
War, famine, disease, abject acts of evil? These are things no longer met with a sigh and muttered mantras nor an empowered yet impotent rant nor a wry smirk and sarcastic response, but a vacant smile.
We have created a society of lotus eaters.
