Newbuild estates are still occupied in some places, though in others they are just places tarmac gathers water and where the white sides of the houses are now black or green. The drains are long-blocked and these places just sit there in the water. Trees begin to grow, foliage spreads out wildly, going for a walk outside of town now really means being the odd one out in a natural environment swarming with animals and fields are resplendent with wildflowers. Japanese tourists in white dresses wade through knee-high ferns to take pictures of each other standing in front of gothic churches, the dense greenery around them buzzing with insects.
