So, what did we find out today through Vanille-tier analysis?
1) Claire is a manifestation of the maternal image in the game. In XIII, she learns to care for others and takes on the role of a caring mother.
2) Etro is a manifestation of the maternal image too. The whole story of Etro in XIII also boils down to her finding the strength and wisdom to help even those of her children whom she doesn't trust or openly dislike. In lore, Etro sympathizes with humans, but treats Warriors of Light poorly, as they represent the forces of crystal associated with Bhunivelze. Largely by observing the MCs as they travel, she changes her mind and helps those she previously considered enemies. At the end of the story, she finally accepts her role as a mother, just as Claire does.
3) The consideration of 1 and 2 clearly hints at the parallelism between these characters and largely explains why Etro chose Claire as the protector of Valhalla in XIII-2.
4) Etro's invisibility makes perfect sense given that the goddess represents the Unseen World. Details like these make XIII one of the most fragrant stories in the series.

Vanillereality.
