This one feels like a false equivalence. Rarity is depicted multiple times within the show using her feminine charm to get what she needs from the opposite sex. I don't recall her once ever being depicted as pining for Spike in any romantic sense. Caring for him yes, but the romantic interest is one-sided.

As reward for giving her his at the time most valued possession, yes. I think it lines up. Plus, she also used him as a pin cushion. That feels far less like 'I love you' and more like 'how low will you go for me?' For the "romantic" of the group, her use of Spike seems far too utilitarian.
