The marketing has been total dogshit. It's baffling.
E3 2017: Surprise reveal. Massive hype. After a decade, Metroid's triumphant return after multiple bad releases. The fanbase's dream game.
>Jan 2019: We get the reboot news. Welp this sucks
>2019-2024: Radio silence.
>June 2024 Direct: Prime 4 closes the show, it's the big re-reveal. Glimpse of gameplay and the intro. Solid tease, people hyped
>Jan 2025: Switch 2 gets unveiled. We get a date for the big April showcase, where people expect Prime 4.
>March 2025 Direct: Surprise SW1 Direct! Only the 2nd time we’re seeing Prime 4, people expect the first meaty showing. Instead we get.....a short and casual narrated video about the physic powers. Feels like an update for a game we’ve seen a bunch of times. Weird choice, but maybe they’re saving the big showcase for the Switch 2 Direct?
>April 2025 Switch 2 Direct: Prime 4 shows up again, but it’s another brief appearance. A little more gameplay and the announcement of the Switch 2 Edition & enhancements. No big trailer, no release date. Not really framed as a key part of Nintendo's 2025 lineup, like Mario Kart World or DK Bananza. Again, feels like a game we've seen a bunch of times. Demo footage looks okay, but it's just the intro
>Sept Switch 2 Direct: Alright, the first major Direct of the Switch 2 gen! Record breaking viewership and hype. Prime 4 is still undated. Finally time for that big blowout trailer to a large audience! ....And it's another short gameplay teaser like March, reveals motorcycle and the desert. Amiibo announcements and December 4th release date, and that's it. Not a big trailer or an announcement of a dedicated Direct later on.
>Early Nov: The "Survive" trailer gets shadowdropped. A better trailer, but still not a big blowout overview.
>Press previews confirmed later this month, still no major trailer or dedicated Direct.
Seriously, what the fuck.
