That was a beautiful display of how and why men get shit done. The lower ape doesn't backstab, he formaly incites a challenge, slightly higher ape is reluctant but not unwilling to throw hands; Lower ape gets handled, other one tries to resolve the conflict by peace. Senior ape appears, all apes defer to his coolness/authority, ask him to mediate. Gives a chance to lower ape to drop the fight and save some face, leave for an instant, decide to intervene to maintain group peace.
