Like My Neighbour Totoro and Where the Wild Things are don't do their weird loveable monsters like E33 does with Gestrals. In those things, the warm loveable creatures are very definitely creatures and inhuman to the point where you don't not associate the things that you do mentally with Gestrals, which are a straight up racial archetype and projection of colonialist mentality. You see monsters in Totoro and Wild Things more like god creatures, majestic spirits of the woods, wise but curiously infantile and inhuman. Gestrals just feel like french interpretation of niggers, straight up.

Btw, I like Gestrals, they're great.
