Unironically, yes. China has three factors that cause this:
>An absolutely massive consumer base that has been relatively untapped by Western corporations.
>A nigh inconceivable amount of liquid capital, both from said consumer base as well as enormously wealthy corporations in bed with the CCP.
>A conformist, conservative culture that still rigidly prioritizes aesthetics, physical beauty, and adhering to societal standards. While the West is individualistic and aims to champion independent expression and aesthetics, the Chinese expect others to maintain a particular standard of beauty.
This means that China both wants all their female characters to be hot, but have the capital to compel corporations to appeal to it. You can see this happen in any franchise that starts getting big in China. LoL used to have a variety of bodytypes and animal champions, now 90% of released characters are jade beauties or Kpop men.
Chinese century is here, gweilo.
