Yeah actually. I based them off ballad and roaming knights.
Black Templar's lore is good enough, I just add that this Crusade is heavy in recording their deeds in ballads and poems. So each Templar write their exploits and deeds on their tabards. Once its full they start again and the tabard is placed on a tapestry in their Battle Barge.
Their banners are tapestries done to commemorate exemplar deeds.
They also host games and tourneys, especially when hosting other chapters (reactions may vary, great with Space Wolves and White Scars, not so great with Iron Hands and Raptors)
Also when a knight comes of age (went from Neophyte to Initiate) they adopt their own heraldry. It could be a mix of the heraldry of their master's and their own, or they can fully start a new line.
They venerate the God Emperor, of course, and despise mutants and heretics and zenos, obviously. But also very chivalric towards loyal Imperial servants, especially sisters of battles.
I like the pious, overzealous, and violent nature of BT, but I think GW forgot to make them more knightly with the more positive aspects of knights, like charity, chivalry, and love for game and art.
