Not reading all the slop, I'm afraid. Same arguments you've all been having with him for years now....Imagine still shitposting the same arguments with Barry after all this time LMFAOOO

So....let's talk about some FF games.
I think we should talk about FF summons.
What FF has your favorite summons? My favorites are FFVIII, FFX, and FFXIII.
My favorite summon is probably Ifrit in FFVIII.

No not really the outside world part. I was hoping to see more from Lumiere itself, some more from the actual people and to see more of the day to day that people lived. Something just a bit more grounded overall, maybe? That's what a lot of people connected to more so than the existentialist and meta elements, which weren't what they thought they were getting into when they got hooked by the trailer.

I won't say I'm disappointed in the end result, because I wasn't disappointed at all. I really loved how unique the Canvas as an idea was. It's a beautiful statement for a game and the ending was amazing.
But I just kept thinking during the game while exploring in the (pretty much dead) world "oh man, the next game really could be even better than this is, if they just add NPC's and some actual functioning locations into a more fleshed out world."

The game is a lot of interesting fields and arenas with incredible art, but most of those fields are all just ruined/fractured backdrops. I want something a little more straight forward and functional as a world, with people and activities and quest structure. Like a Dark Souls world with weird crystal dragons and demons in gothic castles? That dark fantasy world would be seriously amazing with their fantastic art style. And it could still have clear storybook elements, subvert the genre all you want, give it to me in my bloodstream.

But yeah I want to see the more fleshed out setting, with different cities/kingdoms, I want to travel between continents in the flying airship, explore the various biomes and discover different peoples. Also, let me summon. I want to summon.

Yeah, that's some very poor game design to me.
That checkmark basically screams to the player for hours of gameplay "this is another useless time wasting walky talky section with maybe a boss encounter but no meaningful reward".
So whenever some of the quests are actually character focused and somewhat memorable with good dialogue and scene direction, there is basically nothing to differentiate them to the player to make them want to do it.

Take a look at Rebirth in comparison.
Every single "check mark" side quest in the game whether it's a bulletin board job or otherwise, is actually a character focused side quest.
A great reward often awaits you after your expedition across the landscape, and there are usually unique game mechanics specifically for that quest.
There are even unique mini games for character side quests, like taking pictures, picking mushrooms, or Chocobo Gliding.
One quest will be focused entirely around Aerith where you pick flowers like old times or make mushroom stew, and increase your bond.
One with Tifa where you hunt down fresh meat to feed the Condor or transform into a frog to play American Gladiator and increase your bond.
One will be focused on Barret where you craft him a new gun, one on Yuffie where you hunt down the Tonberry King.... Etc, etc.
Every single area of the game you have new set of unique character focused side quests that build on top of each other as you progress and the relationships grow further.
And the game tells you what quests are for who, and there's always one available to do next. You know, like an RPG....
