the thomas malthus "rat utopia" experiments didn't carry over to humans in the way all the alarmists rhapsodized about. it was expected the behaviors would largely carry over in high population density city environments, but as it turned out the only place the behavior really carried over was in special environments including prisons.
there is a practical difference between "physical population density" and "social population density".
