It's a good idea on paper, but unfortunately Germany is just unreliable as a partner. It's a lessor learnt from history that whenever we partnered up with Germans, they ended up subverting the relationship for their own gain.
Even if we assume that era of territorial conquests is over (which I disagree with), Germans would simply use their numerical advantage to dominate any union and then use our combined strengths to just pursue their own interests and retarded political agendas.
Unironically the only union with Germany that might be workable is the one which they cannot dominate. Which leaves only federalized European Union as a viable option. An option I am not personally opposed to, but it must be combined with democratization. The unelected elite must go away.
