Japanese VAs sound better than people dubbing over Japanese media because the people hired to do that are the actual bottom of the barrel. Good english VAs exist, they just aren't hired by the Japanese for some reason. Some of the best voice acting I've heard is from nobodies reading for audible. I think there's some kind of weird nepotism or something going on within SAG when it comes to working with Japan because if I didn't know any better I'd say they were intentionally sabotaging their work.
Part of the reason I believe it has to do with SAG is because English (as in actual UK english) VAs are much better at their jobs. Think what you will of Fromsoft as a developer but their english VA work is leagues ahead of any dubbed work for other Japanese games. And it's not just because it's the original, AC6 has an english dub and it's still quite good, although they're American. I really don't know what their problem is. Maybe good VAs just don't want to associate with anime.
