In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (?)
you're in your tenth grade, the carefree summer approaches, and you decide to go on a camping trip with your classmates. there's jeff, a nerdy dude who is obviously throwing some off-kilters but at that age you stop caring about nerds and focus on whatever else. none of us really wants jeff on the trip, but darcy, your friend, is really compassionate and she feels it's going to be fine. you say: okay darcy, but if this guy is gonna get on my nerves, i will lock you both in a toilet and won't let you out till you suck his fucking cock. she nods. there you are: the campfire is ready, its almost midnight, and you assemble round the burnplace to quack some songs to a good-ol' guitar. daniel plays really good, and he knows a lot of old songs. you see jeff has a guitar too, and after you finish let it be, jeff suddenly announces that he has some of his music to play. your brown eyes grow disapprovingly big, injecting some of your frustration into darcy's mind. she laughs, and everyone laughs too, being in the right anything-goes condition, and welcomes aboard. he plays the entirety of in the aeroplane over the sea, and when ghost and [untitled] come you thank the god and anne frank's resting soul that he finally let the guitar speak. you never invite darcy to a camping trip again.

My thoughts on so called /mu/-core
first time listener here
>Album 1: In the Airplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
I honestly don't understand how you can call this stuff music. It's garbage for the most part, that pretentious little faggots like to wave around symbolically to show that they're smart or better than you or more sophisticated or whatever. It has no meaning. Almost all the tracks can be summed up with two words - "amusing noise". What pisses me off are the vocals, they sound TERRIBLE, like a preteen with chlamydia. I would score it just a LITTLE higher if it was sung by literally anyone else. The lyrics make no sense, they really just sound like AI gibberish most of the time. The only decent and listenable track was the one title "[Untitled]", and not because it was good in any way, but because it was an interesting listen (and because it doesn't have any singing). But then the final "song" comes on and makes you want to just chuck this garbage into the "never listening again" bin.
2/10, honestly.

I think the reason ITAOTS didn't cross over to the zoomer zeitgeist is because it's an extremely lore-heavy album. There's really not much to appreciate if you don't talk and read a lot about it and the context that goes into it. It's an album that can't really exist in a world of algorithms because as a set of songs isolated from context it's not that impressive or interesting. No one ever talks about the record without talking about Mangum's obsession with Anne Frank, nervous breakdown and subsequent withdrawal from society. People don't really talk about music much anymore outside of cursory memes. Blogs are irrelevant. Forums are dead. Spaces don't need to exist anymore. There's a digital conveyor belt that just kinda serves you endless content divorced from peripheral information and in a situation like that, the only records that flourish are the ones that stand out on the surface level and make an immediate and lasting impression. ITAOTS is not one such record.

>redditors don't like my normie tier shit
you do realize that there was period of time when this album was spread around everywhere like a virus anon? In fact part of the marketing was
>"look guys. this one jap was able to produce a mediocre album after just learning how to play the piano"
Scenery is the jazz equivalent to In the Aeroplane over the sea in how jerked off it was
That being said, why do you take the opinions of others so seriously?
