well in the story that i'm writing, the Despair Ring used to belong to a former Deadly Sin (Sin of Despair) who abandoned the place and was supposed to be the place where not only sinners were sent to get punished and lose their minds, and there a few former Hell nobles there for treason or trying to rebel against Hell authority (Lucifer and the sins) but it's now just a death trap to anyone trying to enter it.

it's okay anon but you see in my story, Lucifer conquered hell with the other sins and he crowned himself in the Pandemonium with other sins in a histotrical event that was labeled "Dawn of Sin"

My headcanon that the way humans/mortals perceive the seven deadly sins affects them as they are the manifestation of their respective sins

and so on

and my second headcanon is that this is not how they used to look,and in the beginning of hell, they looked more eldritch and terrifying

How do you think the seven deadly sins were established after Lucifer and Lilith's arrival in hell? Were they fallen angels too who followed him or are they the literal embodiment of their sins?

Also isn't it ironic that the Sin of pride was/is depressed?
