>Then why was fertility plummeting in all industrialized countries from the late 1800s until the Baby Boom?
Because "industrialized society" is not natural and makes people miserable. The misery was kept to a low level because the falling birth rates made labor more valuable. When industrialization started in the 1880's people were forced to work 15 hour days with no safety for mere pennies. Anarchists and violent revolutionaries were everywhere. It was only the falling birth rates that "stabilized" things to some extent.
But then, in the last 50 years, the (((capitalists))) realized they can keep the price of labor down by importing infinite shit skins, which lowers the value of labor AND makes every other societal problem a thousand times worse.
Also the Baby boom (1945 - 1965) followed nearly 20 years of depression + war economy where no one had any children. The value of labor became sky high, and suddenly people felt secure and comfortable enough to have lots of children.
Most people don't feel that way anymore. A lot of people have nothing, they have nothing to lose, and the system not only doesn't help them, but seems designed to keep them fucked forever. People like that don't care if they burn it all down.
