I think 90% of game writing is awful and has always been awful. Good writers don't tend to pursue vidya as a career. Conservatives just tend to write in a very literal, straightforward way that's less likely to intrude into the rest of the game experience. Defeat the bad guy isn't remarkable writing but it translates smoothly to action gameplay. Whereas liberals/lefties always want to insert complexity, nuance, and deeper pathos which deteriorates into incoherent distractions when the rest of the game is oriented around black-and-white objectives.
