We have an entire fucking plotline about how Fern feels like the drive to become a mage worthy of Heiter burned up all her passion and drive.
She lives mostly for Frieren's sake, and (thanks to Stark mostly) she's slowly breaking out of that shell and getting more emotional.
Is it so difficult to just read the words on the page?
