Hello British people.
I'm an ESL (white, so it's okay) studying here, and as good as my English may be on the grammatical side of things, I'm a sperg and usually brain lag when in social situations.
How the hell do I respond to someone saying "y'alright?" when engaging in a conversation?
I noticed a lot of people use this expression, even people I don't know such as till workers and random strangers.
I saw someone I knew so I said hi because I thought it would be rude not to acknowledge them and they responded with the aforementioned.
I *know* they're not asking if everything is actually alright and all, but I usually just manage to spit out a "yeah", then my eye contact limit expires and I end up feeling like the most awkward retard there is.
Am I supposed to say "you alright" back? Or just "yeah, you?".
I like British lingo but some expressions genuinely confuse me, especially in the brief and rapid social exchanges where I don't get any time to gather my thoughts on what I'm gonna say.
