The Wii's success was false and unsustainable. Console sales fell off in the latter years (2009-2012), and the software attachment rate was abysmal. The vast majority of Wiis were bought to fiddle around with Wii Sports or Wii Fit, and then collected dust for years following. It's no coincidence that the Wii was discontinued in 2013/2014 and had its online shut down around the same time, rather than being sold for years as a budget system like the PS2 was. Nobody gave a single fuck about the Wii after the hype died down.
And it was the Wii's false success that led them to think they could double-down on pandering to casuals and toddlers with the Wii U, which was a catastrophic failure.
Imagine if Iwata was still alive and had thus remained president of Nintendo to this day. He would've continued focusing on the casual market with the Switch, rather than what post-Iwata Nintendo did in our timeline by targeting adults and core gamers. He would've kept making waggleshit games forcing you to swing your Joycons around the room to do anything. And he never would've greenlit a "Switch 2", he would have come up with some new shit gimmicky console concept that would re-use PS3-tier hardware yet again.
