It's literally just late 90s American pop. It looks and sounds almost exactly like the stuff Britney Spears, Fiona Apple, Christina Aguilera, etc. were doing in the late 90s, right down to them occasionally using Eastern chord progressions to add an exotic flair. It's not American pop done better, it's just a style of American pop done no differently than it was in the past.
