The poetic irony of Painted Verso's character is despite being a lying, selfish backstabber, the real Verso would've done the same because all of his actions ultimately lead to saving his family in the end, which is what he would've wanted most.
That's what makes his character the most fascinating; while he seemingly possesses the qualities of a villain, he's inadvertently the protagonist of the story.
There's a reason he has a halo; he's an angel in disguise.
