Underground... I actually can't think of anything strictly OOC in Underground? I'm afraid to rewatch it honestly. The fact that he's afraid of water is an error but Sonic X did that too.

SatAM has a few things that he just plain shouldn't be doing. Crying. Being a romantic pursuer. Staying on a specific team in a specific area for a lengthy amount of time yadda yadda. It's been talked to death so I have no ground to cover.

I have a problem with the "sonic is Sonic" argument ant it doesn't just come down to "accuracy". But accuracy is a driving element here.
If you took Sonic from Underground and put him in SatAM, he would end the show in a single episode.
If you took Sonic from the games, and put him in IDW, Surge would have killed Dr. Eggman, then Dr. Starline, and then been brutally beaten by Sonic. Completely derailing the story Ian wants to tell.
It's obvious that these Sonics are "out of character" because there are actual character consequences to switching them with each other. This is why "windfags" get so aggressive.

Archie wouldn't even be a recognizable storyline if you put the Sonic from the games in it.
