Deltarune ditched the pacifist/genocide paradigm for the most part. It is still preferable to be pacifist in most cases, but there are FIGHTs where you have to fight, and at least one fight where violence gives a better outcome. For the most part pacifism is just a sidequest that lets you collect scrimblos for your town.

Enemies no longer die when you defeat them violently, and the whole pacifism stuff is more of a funny sidequest where you recruit scrimblo bimblos for your town. There are actual fights where you are required to FIGHT, and one fight that gives you better outcome if you beat it violently.
