I don't see them ever getting any more popular than they already are, since most people don't understand them at all and see them as shallow "button mashers", cheap "coin munchers", or just casual games to play co-op with your friends. I can't say I personally care, though, especially since the genre is not quite dead yet. I'm fine with them staying niche; most of the best things in this world are.

Final Fight is very fun. I still have more to learn and practice, though.

Playing as Haggar makes me wish that grapplers (and honestly grabs in general) were more of a thing in modern action games. It's weird how this entire archetype basically doesn't exist there. It's why I'll always love Grimlock in Devastation.
