This is pretty obvious to anyone who has kids or talked to someone who has kids. Minecraft is the best selling game ever made for a reason. Minecraft has kind of mind fucked Nintendo too since a lot of their games are chasing the Minecraft Dragon. Tears of the Kingdom, DK Bananza and even that Public Test game that is TOTALLY A SECRET GUYS SHHHHHH all have this "make your own fun" approach and, in the last of the public test, is really just Minecraft. But you're never going to get the kid audience you used to, and even back in 2005 Reggie said it was a bad idea due to population decline. The truth is the way forward for Nintendo and a lot of publishers is to latch onto the Millennial audience. They are still the group most willing to buy games and this is evident with recent reports that 18-24 yr old spending is in the fucking gutter. Games like Kirby Air Riders are what Nintendo needs to make: games that Millennials grew up on (SNES-Wii basically) and they want to see more of. Nintendo doesn't want to do this because it's going to be more iterative sequels but that's how the market is now.
