The wealthy make use of other people to make their wealth. Government spending is mostly spent on the care of the people of a nation. Think of taxes on the wealthy as paying for the upkeep on the people that allow the wealthy to be wealthy. No wealthy person is having to give up anything by paying more in taxes. They just add more wealthy slightly slower.

I don't like taxes as a government policy but with the current monetary system it's the only way to even attempt to balance the books. France like every other nation after covid is deeply in debt and needs to take corrective action to avoid civil war levels of unrest.
