>but then you have games like fantasian where its sakaguchi an uematsu and the game is just not good
I'll fight you! The game starts kind of slow. And I'm actually not huge on the music either (though it is very atmospheric).
But the game picks up fairly quickly and just keeps getting better and better. After you've got your teleporter unlocked, things are already rather engaging. Then you reach the overworld. And when you've got all your party members unlocked, then the game is really rolling. But when you've got the sphere grid unlocked, it's pure fucking ludo all the way until the end.
The turnbased combat is good. And swapping between between your on-field and benched characters mid-combat is strategic and interesting. And the game is full of secrets to find and the world changes a lot as you progress, making visits to both new and old locations interesting.
It's genuinely on par with the golden age Final Fantasy games. It's good all the way through.
