is 2" snub really just the way to go for handiness or 4" for a little less recoil and ear rape?
Barrel length is wholly dependent on use case. If you can carry and conceal a 4" revolver when and where you want then yes a bigger gun is always better. Small guns are pros guns. The short sight radius, smaller grip and increased recoil mean any errors in your fundamentals is magnified.
