It's actually all about how much dick you can suck and how soulless you are. That's really all it is. That is the exact attitude you need to climb up. Make really shit games, know it, and genuinely not care.
If you want to climb, everything you do needs to be some data-driven money making action. Never ever do something that is "a good idea". All you do is present some data, true or not, fudge it and cherry pick, and claim it makes money.
Why do you think they make decisions like "Shovel this game out before it is finished, instead of spending more money to finish it".
You can't argue against that decision, because you can't guarantee the game will sell well, if they spend the money to finish it.

It's not even true that releasing a broken game early is the right call. It's just that you can present numbers to argue for it. You can't predict/guarantee sales to ever argue against it.
It's a fucking battle to get them to care about PC. Even though it's the largest platform by far "most of our customers are on console" is what you will get talking to those kind of people. They ignore the fact they never ever have made a good PC game. They can't see a big picture, or come up with any good ideas. All they do is look at charts and data, so whenever they make a bad decision, they can reference "the data said this would work, how could we predict this would fail" and then they don't get in trouble, and they can move up anyway.
