Because the writers for DCAU's big shows had actual Hollywood experience from the days where they were trained directly by writers who worked in the golden age of Hollywood, and coincided with the Animation Renaissance which meant there was an active interest in seeing animated adaptations, and quite frankly capeshit just works better as animation as opposed to live action.

Nah people just want to bolster their own viewpoints by sharing them with others and that's most easily done through collective shared experiences. At least half of the people involved in the pro/anti AI debates are only involved because it gives them a platform to get immediate support from their peers. People genuinely interested in anything, from art to ethics, are a minority of the population.

A Lars show about him being a space captain is one of three potential spinoffs people were actually asking for back in the day. The reasoning was that Lars is probably the most interesting townie character-wise even if you find him annoying, it'd be an easy way to get away from Steven's perspective, and space pirate adventures are cool. The other two that people often brought up were
