I would say give linux a try, but there a tons of different distros, keep ur ass away from arch-based distros, arch-linux is low-level-config-everything...
Google ur way to a website where u can check boxes for what u like to do with ur PC and it spits out distro-names that fits ur wishes.
Allmost all distros have a try-out-version available for a thumb-drive.
