Punishing flopping would make some legitimately injured players try to hide their injury because refs aren't perfect and some will call a flopping penalty on someone who gets a sudden cramp out of nowhere. Once players start getting flags for legit injuries, injuries become severe from not being treated properly.
It's frustrating to see someone do an obvious flop and for there to be no consequences. It's an imperfect game and refs can't see everything and know the full context in which everything happened.
>>149610409EA told me It's in the Game.

There's been some complaining on Auburn boards lately about Hugh Freeze entering his Scott Frost phase, spending most of his time playing golf with his friends. He's out on the course three or four times a week. Freeze's defenders say he's still recovering from cancer treatment and that's why his recruiting has dropped off so much. Also we're in a dead period, so there's nothing for him to do right now.
Up until about a month ago, the line coming out of the Freeze camp had been that this is going to be the year where Freeze's work comes together. Finally the remains of Gus and the Potato Man would be completely wiped away and it would be Freeze's program, a winning program. Starting about a month ago, the tone changed, with lots of messages coming out trying temper expectations for the season. Everything from 'Freeze has been sick' to 'Auburn is the only school following the rules of the House settlement' have been trotted out.
Seems to me that if you're well enough to play in golf tournaments (and win), you're well enough to be in the AV room reviewing tape and building up initial game plans for the season's opponent. The recruiting dead period doesn't mean coaches can't do any other work with the program. My guess is he knows this is likely his last season and is lowering expectations so he can last a bit deeper into the season than if they start with high expectations that get quickly dashed.
The 'croots just keep flooding in with the Tide
>>149662068Inertia is a wonderful thing. The question is if DeBoer can turn all that talent handed to him into a sustainable winning program. He already missed the playoffs. What happens if he misses them again, especially with all that talent? It's not like he can claim Nick Saban left the cupboard bare.
>>149657344WVU is a shit program that adds nothing, so they arenโt welcome. UVA will get in before WVU does, hilariously enough, Iโm fine with that.
>>149662606Think what the SEC is looking to see in UNC and UVA is evidence that they're not going to do what Colorado did when it joined the PAC12 and go "Now I can get fat" while no longer putting in much effort. They need to show that they're going to try to pull their own weight instead of seeing the conference as a refuge.
UNC sometimes shows signs of life and of course has a basketball pedigree. Virginia is a harder sale because even as their state's flagship, they don't seem all that interested in rising above average in revenue sports. They don't have much time to show they're serious before the realignment wheels start moving again.
>>149661080Miss State is still Lebby, right? That could be fun, turn them into a Big 12 team (which is what he's trying to do IRL).
Stanford could be neat, too, although if I went that route I would shift the conferences back to the 2023 alignment.
>>149662317There could be a cultural issue there. Someone in the building was pissed off enough to let the late to meetings thing leak out.

>>149666738It's what we deserve for hiring that piece of shit. Harsin was an understandable mistake in trying to do something different. Last time we did that, we hired Terry Bowden, which worked out well for a while. Freeze however was just a cynical hire along the lines of "you have to have an son-of-a-bitch if you want to win". Petrino and Steele were earlier rebuffed attempts by boosters with that type of thinking to get their guy. Now they finally got their guy and he's not only the piece of shit everyone knew him to be, he's also a shitty coach in every aspect other than recruiting (and even that's started falling apart too).
That said, Paul is just making noise to get people to listen to his show. Lane's tweet is only significant in that it gave Freeze's tweet more visibility and plays into the notion that Freeze is more interested in playing golf than getting the team ready for the season.
>>149666738Literal non story if it wasnโt July
>>149666738I'm sorry, but did Auburnโs recruiting class already suck? Oh, that's right. The 2026 recruiting season isn't even over yet. In fact, it's only July. Why would you make this post when the season is still going? Auburn is still recruiting right now and they have had top 20 recruiting classes for how many years now? Texas A&M is one of the worst teams in the SEC who just happen to have a recruiting lead because they're feeding off NIL. But you know what? They still fucking suck. Auburn is one of the best fucking teams in college football, they went 5-7 last year and would have made the playoffs if the refs didn't choke. Louisiana Tech's entry into the Sun Belt, once thought to be a slam dunk, appears to be dead. The fellow Louisiana schools wanted Tech in the conference to lower their travel expenses and to boost ticket sales since LA Tech fans can easily travel to games at the other Louisiana schools.
The eastern members aren't having any of that and now are suggesting that if the other Louisiana schools are too poor to travel, they should drop down to FCS instead of shitting up the Sun Belt. Expelling the Louisiana schools and replacing them with MTSU, WKU, and Liberty would keep the conference at fourteen members, while making it a more cohesive regional conference. Arkansas State would be the only remaining member west of the Mississippi River.
>>149678355>The eastern members aren't having any of that and now are suggesting that if the other Louisiana schools are too poor to travel, they should drop down to FCS instead of shitting up the Sun BeltKWAB. As a fan of a Sun Belt east school, I'm glad we're not handing out gibs to the poors in the west. LA Tech does nothing for us.
CUSA and the Sun Belt could do a member swap, though CUSA would be an unwilling participant. If the Sun Belt dropped the Louisiana schools, CUSA would give them a home rather than them needing to drop to FCS. If the Sun Belt took Western Kentucky and possibly Middle Tennessee and Liberty, it would move the Sun Belt east some more, while the already spread out CUSA would get a cluster of members in Louisiana.
The big loser would be Delaware, who'd be on a island a good distance from the rest of CUSA. They really should have tried to get into the MAC. No idea if it was Delaware or the MAC that didn't want that to happen, but with UMass joining and NIU leaving, maybe they'll look at the possibility again.
>>149678355It should be Liberty, but they're a "private, for-profit" school.

At least in CFB 25, some offenses are hard to stop.
>>149679402Even with the hardest sliders, NCAA 14 was piss easy unless you severely handicap yourself. The same can be sad for all sports games and video games in general.
>>149678652Doubt that matter too much to Sun Belt schools. Maybe it would to some of the mid-Atlantic schools but in general, even while filled with the type of people who go into academia, the typical school president of a Sun Belt school is going to be far more open to Liberty than the chardonnay drinkers at major universities. Being private isn't really an issue. The for-profit part isn't even that big of a deal when you look more than an inch deep into the finances of the "non-profit" schools.
The real issue is that it's an evangelical Christian school. Most "religious" universities in FBS are religious in name only. BYU is one of the few that does stick to their religious values but Mormonism is more acceptable to the chardonnay crowd than evangelical Christianity. Which is why the Sun Belt might be an option but the ACC never would be, no matter how well Liberty played or improved their facilities. If you're the president of Troy or Arkansas State, would you openly make public statements of opposition to a form of Christianity that's quite common in your alumni base and your state's legislature?

>Meanwhile>Google UGA demographics>59% women>6x the amount of White people than Asians>>149687395Depends on the Big Ten school. Each state has a different admixture. They're "white" but a different kind. PSU has Italians. OSU has "Americans". Michigan has a lot of Polish + Dutch people. They all have Germans as that group is the plurality of the Midwest. The real gems are at the schools like Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, etc. if you can land a girl before she becomes pear shaped and/or tatted up.
>>149687655>>149690860Also UGA added an engineering program. Before that, girls in Georgia had to either live up to the standards of Tech, which back then didn't bend for DEI all that much, or go to Southern Poly. When Kennesaw State absorbed Southern Poly, that left students who wanted an engineering degree, but couldn't get into Tech, with nowhere to go in state. Lots of them started going to Auburn since it is just over the border and only a couple hour drive from the Atlanta area.
UGA now has a mid-tier engineering program while Tech's standards have continued to increase (though they do have some DEI cutouts). Georgia has no plans to make their engineering school as good as Tech. Not every engineer needs to be world class. The state needs plenty of rank-and-file engineers, which is what UGA will provide. It also helps prevent the top non-Tech students from going to Auburn.

Cyclone bros...our response?
The Sun Belt should just stay put and be ready for the 2030 realignment round. I know they like having divisions but they can either do uneven divisions (it's not the first time this has happened) or do away with them temporarily and schedule eastern schools mostly against each other and western mostly against each other.
It would be a shame to miss out on an opportunity like getting East Carolina because they panicked and saddled themselves with a marginal CUSA program.
>>149703666They've long pulled lots of engineers from the state of Alabama. While Auburn is the top engineering school, there's a large number of other schools with their own engineering programs. Don't know if this is still accurate but Alabama used to produce more engineers than any state other than Texas and California. Getting them to move to Georgia wasn't difficult.
Georgia has often relied on its ability to recruit talent from the region rather than spending resources on developing talent itself. It's why the state has one of the largest income inequality gaps.
Back when the state was petitioned for specialty license plates for schools like Auburn, Florida, and Tennessee, many of the good ol' boys in the legislature balked at the idea of letting other school logos appear on Georgia license plates. Once a business group pointed out how dependent the state is on outside talent and how stupid it would be drive them off over something trivial like a license plate design, they relented.

It's interesting to see that the top of the Sun Belt is about three times as wealthy as the bottom on the conference. JMU's revenue is lower than P4 teams (and WOSU) but is near the top of the G5. The percent gap between them and the ACC is smaller than that with LA-Monroe.
>>149713970There was a struggle between the quarter/Thanksgiving camp and the semester/December camp on when the season should start. The semester group won, even if some schools like UCLA still are on the quarter system, leaving their stands empty the first few games of the season.
Makes me wonder if there's a way that the season can be structured where quarter schools start two weeks later and finish later. This would cause the quarter schools to have a smaller gap between the regular season and the post season so probably couldn't work.

Are they better than a half dozen schools in the conference? Sure, but those schools aren't getting kicked out to make room for FSU/Clemson.
Reminder that at most universities, education majors only have to take one section of College Algebra to meet their math requirement and many schools now have a special section of College Algebra for education majors that's easier than the normal section.

>>149716415>Ohio University, the lone remaining charter member of the MACWell, there's the problem. They're the weirdos of the conference now.
Mentioning travel to UMass and Buffalo was a mistake since it's easy to see travel in the Sun Belt would be greater. But it's easy to see why they might be interested in playing a new slate of opponents. Details on the SCORE Act that Congress is working on.
* would require all NIL deals to hold a โvalid business purposeโ and fall within NIL Goโs fair market value compensation range and anti-circumvention rules
* would allow the NCAA to require athletes to disclose NIL deals so collected data could be anonymized, aggregated and shared
* would stipulate that schools earning at least $50M annually in media rights could not use student fees to support their athletic programs (impacting SEC and Big Ten schools)
* would limit agent compensation to 5 percent of an athleteโs compensation (Yahoo was told by coaches that some agents are charging 10 to 20 percent on some deals)
* would allow the establishment of a one-time transfer rule and eligibility standards
* would keep schools from cutting scholarships for injury or performance
* would require schools to provide athletes with academic support and out-of-pocket healthcare within three years of leaving school
* would require all schools to maintain 16 varsity sports teams
* would allow schools to restrict athlete NIL deals that violate school code of conduct or present a conflict with an existing school agreement (like an athlete having a shoe deal with a different brand than the school)
* would prohibit states from passing their own NIL laws
* would make the House settlement law instead of just a legal settlement

Utahโs new acronym is UU
>>149723298I thought that was always the logo.
>>149720117For me, itโs bottom left.
>>149718501>would allow the establishment of a one-time transfer rule and eligibility standardsExtremely based, I'm rooting for this bill. Transfer bullshit has been my biggest problem with the current iteration of college football
Another year of college ball, and another year of me advocating that all the perennial bottom dwellers switch to an old school run heavy/option offense.
>>149725540>letโs make sure zoomer kids never want to play football at our school, thatโs whatโll turn things around!I doubt zoomers have the heart or focus to effectively run those offenses anymore
>>149725643Those kids are picking these shit schools because everyone else didn't want them. They're already going to lose 8+ games every year, so there's nothing to lose. There are enough HS teams that run old school offenses that would lessen the transition. You also instantly get the advantage over your opponents by shrinking the amount of time they have to practice for it.
>I doubt zoomers have the heart or focus to effectively run those offenses anymoreSome they would. The Notre Dame Box is basically just a heavier option version of the modern Wildcat offense.
>>149725643>>149725752You could get enough good OL and RBs who like it. You'd never get WRs or TEs worth a damn. You might be able to get a QB who is good at running the option. They exist, but the challenge is convincing them to keep being option QBs instead of trying to get better at passing and learning an offense that translates to the NFL.
dman prime can't even walk
>>149725939> challenge is convincing them to keep being option QBs instead of trying to get better at passing and learning an offense that translates to the NFLhasnโt stopped oregon, Ohio state and pretty much every SEC school from running offenses that donโt translate to the nfl
>>149725939These are schools that are bottom dwellers, they aren't getting 3* or better players to begin with. Stack your roster with physical WRs and undersized, athletic o-lineman at TE.
>>149726320I get what youโre saying but think about it from the 16,17 year oldโs perspective

>>149726699O-lineman love run blocking over pass blocking as they get to initiate contact instead of absorb it.
>go somewhere flashy that might win a lot of games and while coat tailing putting in zero effortI think NIL changes that. Most kids now just follow the money and don't give a damn about anything else. I don't blame them as everyone does it even with real jobs.
>>149723298>96% of people in the state connect the existing logo with the university. That's insanely high for anything. Sounds like they're more interested what people outside the state think, a classic mistake of thinking it's ok to ignore their base, but the kind of thing academics love to do.

>>149725643Love seeing plays like a double reverse succeed but seems like teams shy away from anything with lots of "moving parts". Much easier to chunk the ball downfield in the era with so many protections for the QB and receivers.
>>149727051>seems like teams shy away from anything with lots of "moving parts"Easier to just spread it out and throw into big windows. There's less risk involved compared to the option, reverses, etc. where the ball can easily be fumbled.

>>149729109He probably came into the job with the intention of doing well. He's the type that smells his own farts so he thought he was as great as his nut huggers believe him to be. The wins over Saban were tainted and Liberty simply was able to outspend everyone in CUSA. But his supporters blew a trillion lumens of sunshine up his ass until he believed the hype.
His first couple of seasons were blamed on Harsin but in the current age of the portal and NIL, the bare cupboard excuse doesn't work very long. Last season he made a habit of blaming the players for his mistakes, especially poor play calling. His supporters kept doubling down on the potato man excuse, saying 2025 was going to be the year everything turned the corner. Now Freeze has to actually produce and he sees the talent just isn't there. Not with him, not with the staff, and not with the level of development in the players he recruited and should have been able to take to their full potential. It's also a place for Michigan students who end up on academic probation to get to their grades up enough to get back into Michigan.
