Many bikes are no longer made for what was their main customer base, humble working class people. Instead, people are now casually dropping 6k on a bike. The market has changed enormously. It's now dentists and business owners who use it as tax write off. People who actually are into cycling generally don't ride the blingy ridiculously priced bikes.
Ironically it's the less sporty people who buy the sportiest bikes, because a 20-30 something semi athlete who isn't sponsored will be riding a far cheaper bike. Also funny how trek and a few other major bike companies are failing yet the smaller bike brands who offer a more competitively priced bike are booming. Gee, I wonder if there's a correlation. It's unsustainable for the bikes to cost so much and we're already seeing considerable price cuts from brands like trek. Though it doesn't help their bikes have been eclipsed by the competition, they're c tier bikes now imo.
>>149920980kek, he almost busted his ass on the take off.
'The Racer' was a nice film I watched, in another language I can't remember which. Follows a young rider trying to make it as a professional. Extremely dramatic which I didn't think a cycling film could be. One of the best films I ever watched on reflection, think I'll watch again tonight.
>>149921677Irish isn't another language, but the Belge main actor speaks Belgian (both of them) in the movie. it follows some washed up rider that gets into the yellow jersey thanks to dopage. but yes, it's a comfy watch, it was on arte for some time.

>>149922678>Now we come to the kind of stages that really suit the Dane, and if he doesn't manage to put Pogacar on Madeleine, I think he will succeed on the difficult first stretch with a tailwind on the Col de la Loze. If he gets rid of him first, he usually doesn't get picked up, and then time will tell how much he can win. I still think it will be very difficult to win the Tour when the gap is so big, but if Vingegaard doesn't have his third bad day of the race โ and he has suddenly got them โ I think he will win the stage.just when I thought I couldn't be more hyped
>>149922763>NOTE: I only give Pogacar and Vingegaard a chance to win from a favourite showdown, and therefore Florian Lipowitz, Oscar Onley and Kevin Vauquelin have not received stars, as I do not expect them to break away and thus have a hard time winning the stage. In the analysis below, I have sections where I explain the expected balance of strength between the favourites, and despite the lack of stars, I reckon that Lipowitz is the third strongest.

I was reading about old timey cycling as a sport, and it turns out that track cycling used to be a really popular marquee event, far more popular than road cycling, especially in the united states
i wonder if track cycling back then was more popular than road cycling is now (relatively speaking)
>>149924150original track cycling was as close as we will get to bloodsport in the modern era. tracks would have races going on 24hrs a day to maximize ticket sales so the races would be 6 days non-stop. the modern 'Madison' gets its name from when the US limited riders racing to 12hrs continually, so Madison Square Garden just ran races where two riders would swap every half-day. basically watch guys go insane over a period of six days killing themselves. this is the same reason speedwalking was briefly popular as a spectator sport
> An athletic contest in which participants "go queer" in their heads, and strain their powers until their faces become hideous with the tortures that rack them, is not sport. It is brutality. Days and weeks of recuperation will be needed to put the Garden racers in condition, and it is likely that some of them will never recover from the strain.
>>149924150I think it was. Seems like the money was in track. Only slightly related, nazi germany outlawed road racing in all its territories while track was still allowed.

>>149924779Fishing is a cheap man thing here at least in FL, you can buy a rod from walmart for like $20 and grab some bait at the local shop for less than $10. There are so many estuaries and local waters that it's legal to fish at without a license. The only real money drop is in deepwater and gulf fishing.
Most neighborhoods have retention ponds with fish you can fuck around at as well, really just have to watch for gators.
UAE and Visma fake pace all day. Jonas attacks halfway up loze that drops everyone but pogacar. Pog sits in the wheel for a while and then attacks in the last 2km or so and gains 19 seconds. Break wins by 1:23
>>149924436For me it's Van Avermaet coffee
>>149924779Nah, its like the cheapest legitimately fun thing to do. Except getting the fish and game license, but even then, if someone owns a private pond or private creek you can fish there easily.
