Shit man, I am pretty new to following cycling and I had no idea that this many people have died in the sport. Most of them seem to die while descending too. Pretty crazy, it actually seems like cycling is the most dangerous sport if there's at least 1-2 deaths per year from cyclists either dying during a race or dying while training and getting hit by a car.

Muriel Furrer was the saddest one though, she died during a descent and no one saw her and it wasn't until they realized she didn't finish and was missing that they went back and looked and found her body and that just happened last year, she was only 18.

I feel like this is the case with all the big/known brands. The ratios just change depending on the brand. Like Bioracer is 99% people in custom team kit, while Rapha or maybe PNS is on the other end of the spectrum. But every now and then someone wearing Rapha will fly past you on a climb when you're doing 5 W/kg yourself.

Also there is a massive difference in what a Gran Fondo means in Europe and the US. In the US they're usually more of a just social thing and a group ride with no competition. In Europe pretty much every single bigger one will have conti/proconti riders there that are racing for the win and it's more like a marathon where the fast guys are racing to win and others are there for the experience and to finish. The bigger amount of participants makes it possible to completely close roads, have bigger prices, etc. They're usually really well organized and quite fun with routes that are much better than your normal circuit road race.

I eat a lot of salads still and sometimes vegetables. Yesterday I has cauliflower cheese for example. It's a brilliant diet for a variety of reasons. You eat very well too, I don't eat steaks, venison, duck etc but if you did you'd basically eat like a medieval king.
