I played alot of Crusade in 9th edition and it was my favorite way to play. I enjoyed having a focus more on narrative games than just pick up match play games. 10th edition, I tried doing one at the start of the edition and it felt dry since everyone had indexes. My main complaint with 10th edition crusade is there's no generic crusade missions and all the mechanics in the books are heavily tailored towards the book(Tyranids and Chaos). I like the idea of strategic sites in Nachmund but the reinforcement mechanic seems like a drag. I wished GW came out with the additional mission booklets for Crusade but it is what it is. I'm still very much interested in that game mode, I think I prefer how 9th presented it a little better.

It was revealed to me in a dream that Custodes should be painted with "gold" armor and "actual gold" details, e.g. GSW Antique Gold pigment thinned with gloss varnish for most of their surface area and Vince Venturella gold on the trim like the six-way lightning bolts on the chest and the pauldron embellishments. I started one a few weeks ago and we're two games in but boy if people aren't taking it too seriously. I put together a 1000pts casual list of sorts and my last game I was facing a Rogal Dorn Commander, Leman Russ Vanquisher and a Hellhound all at the same time. It's 3vs3 and all sorts of OP shit at 1000pts are on everyone's list. And I'm fielding a Magus. I don't really enjoy stat-check games.
I really like the missions though (Tyranic Wars), they're much better than your average mission decks as they're fluffy. I wish the CM asked people to tone down their lists but I think he's on it as well.

either way, the fun way to paint gold is to paint the model brown and then brush/drybrush/stipple your chosen gold on then get it with a little silver varnish for you choice of matte or gloss

I'm like crusade but it's kind of shit when half your playgroup still doesn't have a codex to play it with even now.
It also has a tendency to snowball really hard with players taking a huge lead and getting too strong for others to compete, even with the catch-up mechanics. A campaign can't really sustain more than like ten game rounds before the haves and have nots start to pull apart.

Any advice for a newbie to Crusade? I'm going to run sisters and really don't want to run named characters because that's super lame to me. The Crusades starting up at the end of summer (they've ran 3 this year and the GM wants a break for the summer) and I'm really excited for it. I've decided to only run painted models so I have until late August to finish my Castigator and paint a squad of Seraphim, Zephyrim and a few random infantry models. I have a baby due this week and have 8-10 weeks of paid leave lined up so plenty of chances for some sleep deprived painting with the baby in a carrying wrap.

Its really easy to avoid named characters in sisters. Make a canoness or palatine your character on the path to sainthood. Probably the canoness because its easier to keep her alive. I would probably reccomend against the repentia if you have other models just because they are a bit fragile and expensive for 1000 points.

I see you have grayfax and ephrael stern there, which are totally fine balance wise. Maybe just run grayfax as a generic inquisitor? Then you can double up on crusade rules for Agents, right? Because Agents have bonus crusade rules you can spend your points on.

I have decided. I am going to form an army with all the leftover and random Space Marines I have collected over the past twenty years. Going with a Space Wolf successor chapter, focused on disciplined use of ranged weapons over the berzerker methods of the Space Wolves. I blame getting into 40k with the Space Wolf Omnibus and old Space Wolf and Armageddon codexes. Pretty excited to finally have an Imperial army after twenty years of playing. Now to just finalize the backstory of the chapter and get a painted miniature to see how the scheme I picked looks in on the tabletop.

I sometimes hear people say they like 30k rules but they don't want to play marines vs marines. So 40k has better army variety, but 30k has better rules. Can someone say exactly why this is the case? What is specifically better? I know all the 40k rules but I have not looked at 30k at all.

IBecause to achieve true SOVL you need a bit of crustiness, When everything is smoothed over and optimized for fun™ it loses charm and originality. Templates are one of the things I think of most about this. I still remember how annoying it was having to manually space your squad out after every move. Blast removes that but it's just not the same, you lose that very visual guide for what was happening on the battlefield.

Same for destroyed vehicles remaining on the battlefield or teleporter variance.

Lethality was not an issue relative to 9th or even 10th. The guy was incredibly vague in his made up claim, I can only assume he means rolling a deep strike mishap into terrain. Which is why you wouldn't deep strike where that was likely to avoid exactly that. And boards back then were larger and required less terrain overall because of the dramatically decreased lethality.

World Eaters still need Red Butchers and Teeth of Khorne and a Blood Slaughterer (seriously that's a fucking OG unit how do you bring fucking Tzaangors back from the depths of Rogue Trader but not this?) and also should have the Berserker-Surgeon (whatever those guys are called in the lore that install the Nails). Instead they got "here's some guys possessed by 8 daemons" and they look less possessed than the guys possessed by ONE daemon. So fucking retarded. They also could have given them a jump pack unit or a bike unit or an open-topped transport or a full unit of berserkers on juggernauts - you know, literally anything to demonstrate that maybe the fucking melee-loving army would try to get into melee faster.

It did make it feel more like a simulation. But at the same time, the game has changed to be more appealing to tournament fags. A lascannon hit could do anything from absolutely nothing to explode a vehicle in one shot regardless of what that vehicle was. It had a lot more " random " variables. With toughness and wounds there is a lot less of that. And back then as im sure you remember even glancing a vehicle could lead to shaken or stunned crew leaving the vehicle either only moving to doing nothing the whole next turn. Once again, this can't happen in the current tournament system, vehicles are more reliable for it but it feels more gamey, because it is.

Like I remember there was a short story about a marine who was found inside a space ship that approached the deathwatch fortress and when it was boarded they found the marine in stasis and notice how he specifically had scrubbed his armor entirely of any chapter or legion markings. I don't have a pic of the entire list in one photo but here's a good chunk of it. The guy on the left with the claw and flames is my Huron proxy - I converted him out of some leftover bits forever ago and use the chaos familiar as his Hamadrya. I based it off the old art of him holding a burning corpse in his claw. You can't see it too well from this angle but he is holding a burning torso and skull in there, it's mostly covered by the greenstuff flames. Definitely not my best work and I do wanna take another go at it but that'll have to wait a while.

There are two ways. One is as a speedbump. If your enemy has a lot of scout moves and seems to wanna be aggressive with them, you can stick a unit in front of those scouts to block them. The infiltrators will die, of course, and scouts are better at this job, but infiltrators will work in a pinch. The second is as deep strike deniers, where you use their 12" aura to secure your deployment zone from any sneaky fuckers trying to get into it. They do this job much better than eliminator because of the larger unit footprint and aforementioned 12" anti-deepstrike aura.

You run bigger units when you have potent buffs to apply to them AND need the hammerblow such a unit provides. Often, these come from leaders, but sometimes it's for stratagem efficiency too.
I don't think you'd ever want to run infiltrators as 10-mans. Even if you have a phobos captain or lieutenant, he's better off either running solo or leading one of the smaller units for flexibility. They're not damage dealers or sturdy enough for frontline duty, better to keep them as cheap as possible so they can skirmish efficiently.

S - Strats. Are you going to be using strats on that unit? 2x3 Inceptors and 1x6 cost the same, but Storm of Fire matters a lot more on the 1x6. If you aren't going to use strats, 2x3 might be better!

Leaders- What is the leader doing? If he buffs the unit do you want to maximize the buffs he gives, or is the squad just ablative wounds for one guy? If he's buffing, MSU is probably not the way to go

Actions- Do you expect to use the unit to do actions? Must they shoot every turn or might they do actions to turn the tide. MSU tend to be better for actions.

Visibility- how huge is a unit? It's pretty easy to hide 10 Scouts out of LoS, not so much for 10 Gravis dudes. More guys means they are harder to hide and are more likely to get shot,

E - Efficacy - Can they do what they wanna do? Is a killy unit killing enough as a MSU or do you need big blobs to guarantee kills into your ideal targets? If it is a utility unit, do they need more models to do that thing better?

Depends on who you're asking. The Space Wolves, like most space marine chapters, think the Emperor is just the greatest humans. But unlike most chapters, they believe gods exists (Morkai, etc) and that these gods are mightier than the Emperor.
All baseline humans think the Emperor is not a god, but THE God with capital G.
Custodes and the primarchs think that no gods exists, because the Emperor said so.

The Emperor is a god because he has godlike powers. Its a bit like mantling in Elder Scrolls. Mortals can become gods by "walking like a god until a god walks like you". And that for gods, time is not linear. The Emperor may have become divine in 30th millenium, but him becoming divine means he was always a god if not THE God.
Which is why I said that Jesus wasn't around during the Great Flood, but he was because Jesus is God.
The Emperor, as he becomes God, sees time like a book and has the ability to go to any page and write in it as if he is the author.
Maybe the Emperor made us in his image as God, who after all, made humans in his image.
