The local HH community is way more active and consistent than the 40k playergroup. The latter regularly dies out completely when GW fucks up the balance dataslate again.

Titanicus has been played, again! So I had another intro game against a gentleman who hadn't used the order/reactor rules before so this was fun. Doing this tutorial games are great because I get to see what kind of difference Legio rules and stratagems make since we're forgoing those for simplicity.
Anyway Xestobiax vs Mortis. Quite the matchup that's a warmaster there.

Turn 2 ended up quite dramatic. My knights got into melee thanks to a strong turn 1 advance. They'd deal significant damage to the warhound's reactor that would eventually kill it, though they wouldn't live to see their work done. Double Dog would also die turn 2, shot to pieces by the warmaster after being softened by the reaver there.

Stripes would be the MVP. 2 turns of full stride saw it destroy an objective and then its next 2 turns would be spent beating down the enemy princeps senoris (it was a close run thing after a danger close blast from the volcano cannon). Thanks to its efforts I would actually win the game since we were playing with the more complex Open War cards. A rare victory.

The warhound there incinerated the knights but the damage they did plus the follow up damage from successive reactor overloads would kill it. As turn 2 became turn 3 Jim was taking fire while the warlords advanced. Laserbeak was happered by that little building for several turns.

Turn 3 the warhound's overloads would kill it while Jim was blown apart by the plasma suzerians from the warmaster. Jim usually survives games despite crippling damage but the warmaster cared little for its reputation.

Turn 3 would see the Xestobiax warlords team up to make sure that reaver titan died. Bossman would miss a staggering 18 shots before its second macro gatling blaster landed 4 shots at once to plink the last piece of damage off its legs and lay it low.

Turn 4 was a doozy. First Stripes finishes off the reaver, it's final singular smash attack causing a catastrophic meltdown. The warmaster dropped Bossman's shields in a single volley, even without shieldbane. Then the warlords engaged.
A reactor overloard cause 4 pips of damage on the warmaster, then Bossmans's outstanding rolls (11 5s and 6s between the two gatling cannons) caused another 5 pips plus 1 critical damage pip. Laserbeak then engaged, causing another 3 pips of critical damage leaving the warmaster on its last leg. The graviton ruinator lined up, ready to give the coup de grace, with 5s to hit and 2s to damage on 2 attacks, only to miss as it had every single time it fired during the game.
A lovely game. My opponent was a veteran of the original Titanicus game, a true gent, and had some great insight. I'm always happy to give intro games this is really one of the best rulesets GW has ever made.

Alternate primary detachment with no baseline troops, instead 4 warmachine slots (automata) and 4 shock assault slots (thallax and ursarax). Automata are still stuck in units other than thanatars. Prime benefit to make a single model in an Automata unit a paragon subtype with +1 WS, BS, and Invuln save. Dumbed down cyberthurgy and technoarcana because somehow people are retarded enough to get confused by it.

Currently I'm kitbashing a Moritat with two plasma pistols (warp fire pistols if they let us keep that shit in 3.0) after seeing the White Scar Vigilator mini and thinking to myself that it's the guys that go against the chapter stereotype that are sometimes the coolest, not that this is an original thought probably.

No. It means exactly what it says. The person who has advantage during the Glory Step is the guy who gets to choose to end or continue the fight.

TTF is a gambit where you get to pussy out of the challenge and quit fighting even if the enemy is initiative 20 Corax, but you're probably going to strike last and without any extra bonuses for being a bitch.
It's probably a good choice for someone like Lorgar who Corax would absolutely buttfudge if you try to do any combat gambit and strikes before you anyway, so if Lorgar doesn't do TTF Corax will just keep shoving Lorgar's head into a toilet until Lorgar is a corpse.

Likewise, if you are say Angron and will be taking a carnival cruise through Lorgar's rear end, you might yourself play TTF gambit, giving up extra combat bonuses you don't need to break the weak nerd in half, so that you can get Advantage in the glory phase and keep Lorgar from ever being able to escape.

I'm reading the page and it doesn't make any sense RAW if they didn't fuck up when editing the glory step stuff.

There's two possibilities. Instead of "challenge advantage" they mean that you're considered the "challenge winner" in the glory step. This possibility would be say letting opponent deal 5 wounds and you only dealt 3 wounds, but are considered winner so you get 3 resolution and he gets 0 resolution.

or that they got the timing slightly wrong and meant Challenge Advantage for the paragraph right above the glory step. And then it's about continuing the challenge.

If we take it purely RAW then their 2nd challenge does nothing whatsoever with massive handicap, so I believe it's supposed to be one of those two.

I don't think they've changed enough fundamentals to make things like removing rerolls, turning everything into a modifier and adding 3 more checks to the game. Either there was no editor or they phoned it in (maybe using AI themselves). Issue is that executives have very little to do with the day to day writing and development of rulesbooks, which would be more the perveiw of the line and team managers. As well as a misundersanding of how AI is used in these fields. Whilst it may be checked using an AI program for grammatical mistakes and spelling errors. AI is very rarely used for creating the actual content of the books. Apart from using it as a tool to suggest words that may be better suited in a particular context.

I directly field magnets without all the plastic and paint in between.

Joke aside, here is what I do:
- Dread arms, underarms and claws. I have two Contemptorss for two legions each and can mix and match the chaingun, heavy bolter, multimelta and fists between them all
- Termie arms. Once I magnetized Termie hands too (40k Deathwing Knights); not going to do that anymore, too many moving parts.
- tank sponsons or their weapons; not necessarily magnetized, drilling through a lasgun and sticking a rounded match through it also holds it in place
- Land Raider & Typhon side doors are magnetized thus swappable; got a Spartan that I probably won't treat this way because I want to put the large decals on it.
- Land Raider pintle weapon is magnetized so I can switch between Heavy Flamer or Multimelta. Not really playing btw, but I did it because I can.
- plastic tanks I don't fully glue together; Damocles dish is just put onto and Land raider ceiling can be removed, because the nerd in me painted it on the inside. I don't give a shit about Rhinos though, Rhinos are free. And resin is glued together, it is usually boring on the inside anyways, e.g. there is nothing in the resin Typhon.
- a character model with head and helmet option got the head magnetized to use both

I have 3 Rapier laser destroyers in resin, I don't magnetize them; neither do I own other weapons for them nor do I plan to ever swap the lasguns. I bought them to fuckup tanks and Dreads, a heavy bolter or bombard isn't going to do that.

Flyers I didn't magnetize, they just get the best/coolest loadout. Normal marines I don't magnetize. GW drowns us in tactical marines.

I should have magnetized buildings I built. I have some walls of 2-4 floors in height and gluing them together was idiotic as it permanently uses up a lot of space.

Lightning cannons in 2.0 weren't even a real threat to terminators, because even with rending 4+ it only did one wound to terminators.
The new profile is damage 2, meaning each failed save is one terminator dead, and on a 5+ even a saturnine terminator is immediately killed.
The lightning cannon got a huge buff, not a nerf.

If you can't differentiate between precisely written rules and overly-long winded rules, that's a you problem. Rules can avoid ambiguity and be concise, efficient, and readable.
You could also leave certain things unsaid by ensuring the ruleset was consistent, and thus establishing clear precedent.
GW can't seem to do either, but blaming that on people who disagree over the ambiguous rules is just retarded,

Seriously though they couldn't have left this in the oven and made it a Christmas release so all the supplementary content would be ready to rock along with the new edition? Having to wait until the end of the year to even know if half my shit is going to be worth the bother of playing sucks nuts.

the reason I think it's so lazy / sloppy is that they spent a dozen books setting up the stage and moving characters around only to just ignore that and teleport them to where they need to be for the finale

They should have simply dealt with all those side characters in an anthology or something. The ending of the series was always simple. The Emperor fights Horus and ends up on the Throne. There's not much going on really.

So they decided to pad that shit. 3 books filled with 90% filler. It is genuinely irritating to read. Like, you're into what going on between the Emperor and Horus but no, we suddenly have to shift to Fafnir Rann or some other rando for the next 30 pages. It's like Abnett saw the Rise of Skywalker and decided to make a book version of that.

The ending should have just been one book that focuses on the stuff that matters.

Porta Fractis looks cool and fluffy. But I think it will be useless in the end:
>Force a Rhino to disembark
The player disembarks the marines behind it. Now you're forced to attack an empty Rhino - useless
>Force a Land Raider to disembark
Now you have to deal with a Land Raider *and* Terminators (unseal the portal is range 6").

I really only see it benefitting line units getting shot to stay standing on objectives when your turn comes. If you lost combat then odds are you're going to keep losing it. Anon, porta fractiis is basically the same now. The reason you use it is to fly up with a reductor archmagos and force the enemy deathstar our of their transport so you can hit them with 2 thanatar blasts firing twice each and 6 krios blasts. Only thing that's changed is 6" range instead of 12" and whatever difficulty means (probably modifier on int check to activate)

"Two different" means "Mutually Exclusive". If the other one is viable, then everyone will simply flock to that one and never use this one.
And if the other one is equally bad, then the legion is fucked. You want both to be viable, and apparently that's TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR.
So I shall NOT "wait and see". I already saw one. It is BAD, and it shouldn't be so.

For historics, this was the alternate WE trait from 1.0, which then evolved into "Fuck it, +1A on the charge" 2.0 trait everyone is used to.

The Legiones Hereticus will be their own thing, and should be treated as such.

Im saying it kinda got worse (halved range), and back then it had to compete with powers that were "what if I just kill their transport instead of forcing them to disembark?"
And then you get a unit that is wounded and maybe Pinned from a dead vehicle, instead of a healthy unit backed by a fully operational vehicle

My best, genuine pointer is to log off and go outside. You are way too upset over rules for a game you don't even need to play. Just stick to 2.0 if you prefer it, let them go through another 3 year game cycle then check in at the next edition to see if you like it more. Its what I've been doing with 40k for the last 3 eds. I'm sure if the game is absolutely shit and plays like ass you'll easily find a group of like minded people to play with.

I couldn't care less. Hell, if The End and the Death was a single tome like it should've been (or even a duology), instead of three padded out books, I think it would've been an acceptable way to accelerate the story to its conclusion. I'm currently on Part 2 and, god, if I wasn't listening to it passively while working, I would have probably given up on it. Between the filler and Abnett doing Abnett shit like making use of new word forms such as "Astartesian" and "psykanic" instead of just "Astartes" or "psychic", I would have been resistant to spend my down time actually spent reading it.

>"Astartesian" and "psykanic"

"artesian", a technical term referring to the movement of water underground (as in "artesian well"), comes from French - it's something like "of Artois" (the region) as this region was the first region in which artesian wells were made

"Astartesian" is both a valid formation and a nice piece of wordplay

"psykanic" means "of or pertaining to psykers" just as "psykana" is the (presumably high gothic/busted-ass latin) way of referring to a "psyker" by their occupation, in line with raptora, questora, centura etc; these are not "-a" endings to denote a "feminine" gendered occupation or word (see also "raptora" of the Thousand Sons, but also "pirata", "scriba" etc)

if you're distracted by neologisms perhaps genre fiction isn't for you

I know they are wearing whatever pieces of armour they can salvage (and their helms are legion-specific), but is that Mk4?

the charge rules for TOW have lead to no end of confusion and controversy, this is probably exactly the sort of thing that convinced SDS to overdo the HH3.0 rules and make them so airtight.

Oh yeah, it's definitely neologisms as a concept as the problem. It's not like 40k isn't rife with them, nor that it's often a tool of world building in genre fiction. My issue is that these terms haven't been used at all throughout the universe outside of Abnett's writing, and pretty recent too as far as I can remember. It'd be one thing if it was a singular quirk of a character, like Fo who has been locked away for many years, but they're used across multiple characters that have never said them before. It's just an arbitrary changing of grammatical rules because Abnett likes sniffing his own farts. "Astartes" has largely stayed the same regardless of the form in which it's used, and "psychic" has always been the proper terminology when it pertains to psykers.

Very little of the CSM range actually has mk.5 armour.

The chest piece is super common, but the rest is quite rare. You see it by the exposed power cables, which only one set of those legs have.
So all the legs are mk.6/7
Chests are mainly mk.5 with some mk.7 and 1 mk.4,
heads are ??
arms are weird mk.7
shoulders are psuedo mk.3
and backpacks are all anvillus type

Kinda curious about the SA article tomorrow. Hopefully they made playing against SA more of a challenge, because right now it feels like bullying a little kid which just isn't nice. I've even tried playing against SA with 400 points less and it was still a massacre.

They're literally just mk.7 anon.

If you want to make them mk.5, all you need to do is greenstuff the power cables (and studs if you're cool.

I think it should have only triggered on cool checks, the Nails don't take when they are on the verge of breaking out of fear or low morale, it's more like over-stimulation and frustration which suppression symbolizes way better. It also would be great gameplay wise to encourage you to rely on melee troops knowing that even though you'll take damage from superior ranged armies you will get a bonus. Instead we have an ability that won't ever trigger.
