Are sexy female custodes the way to make absolutely everyone mad?
That is an incredibly gay picture. Please kys or go back to /a/.
>>96059712anime website, you are the outsider here
I'm considering starting an Eldar army but I don't know much about them as an army. Or playing the game generally
Is the Combat Patrol a good start?
Is it all stuff I'd probably be using in a full 2,000 pt army?
It's got a lot of Aspect Warriors, if I wanted to keep using them as I built up the army would I be kinda locked in to an Aspect heavy army?
It looks like this stuff comes to 495 points, is this a good 500pt army for me to use in learning games?

>>96059709I dunno but it's a way to make my pp into the PP
Why does GW insist on putting these in every Sisters box?
>>96059719Depends on how you feel about half your box being older sculpts like the Dire Avengers. Aspect Warriors are kind of the core of the army lore wise. If you think Guardians look cooler, you could try and snag the old box while they are still around.
>>96059709No. Now male sisters of battle is something no one wants

Do you collect a canon army or do you prefer to make up yourdudes?
>>96059940Follow up yourdudes question; just how much autistic scrawling is too much?
>>96059940Unless I 100% love the official faction, Yourdudes lets me pick any chaos legion ruleset and make up my own lore
>>96059940Always /yourdudes/. I want to make my own dudes, tell their story and watch them grow on the battlefield.
>>96059843>male sisters of battleyum
>>96059654 (OP)>TQIf the faction is large enough to warrant it, microfaction. Tempestors are not large enough and don't tend to act like a larger army. Similarly Harlequins act in small teams. Corsairs are questionable as they could be big enough to warrant a codex supplement but at the moment they don't. Non-cult legions should be supplements only when they have enough models to warrant it.
>>96059940/mydudes/
>>96059949No such thing, just remember itโs no better than a teenage girlโs fanfic so donโt take it too seriously. But write to your hearts content.

>>96059986Jesus CHRIST marinefag calm down.
>>96059994seethe more /v/ermin
I like having a splinter of an existing subfaction, so I can use both the existing lore and add my own. Like my dudes are part of the sautekh dynasty, but are also their own elite force within that dynasty with a slightly altered but still recognisably sautekh-ish colour scheme.
If I did marines I'd probably do the same and make my own crusade force of an existing chapter.
>>96059940Iโm making /mydudes/ out of a canon army
>>96059719Dire avengers are shit and almost never get played, the rest of the box is ok.
>>96059940If I find a canon color scheme I like I'll just add my own headcanon shit on top. Sometimes you have to anyway when they only give you 3 sentences of lore.
>>96059940Mydudes are tyranids, I get to make up a name, color scheme and where they were first encountered, that's good enough for me
>>96059719Dire avenger sculpts are aging badly and mold slipped. The older CP is a better start. In general eldar don't get good value boxes.
The eldar range is pretty big, so what you collect depends on whether you want to lean into a specific aspect of the army
>Aspects>Wraiths>Bikes>Guardians>Grav tank spam>Seer/warlock spamSo it heavily depends on what parts of the army you like most.
>>96059940I run Dark Angels so the difference between yourdudes and canon is almost nil.

>>96059654 (OP)TQ: I think there should be three kinds of codex: Faction Codexes for the big players and broad strokes, Mini Codexes for unique players and Mercenary/Soup Codexes filling in gaps and adding some common pool choices.
My ideal Codex release structure would be:
-Main Faction Codexes to start from
-Imperial Agents, Lost and Damned, and a Mercenary Pirates Codex, each primarily expanding Imperial, Chaos and Xeno forces respectively (with some sprinkled overlap)
- Micro-faction Codexes, more similar to Detachments that let you focus on specialists from Main Codexes, sometimes include extra characters and novelty units and include things like synergistic/soup detachments to make certain flavorful combinations appealing
This structure would make keeping things organized easy while still opening up some thematic and interesting novelties. If you wanted to run a cops-and-robbers scenario, there might be a micro-faction Codex for running Arbites as their own thing, but also you could pull rabble from both the Space Pirates and Lost and Damned to build a force of just rioting prisoners and gangsters; could even include conversion rules for necromunda gangs. At the same time though, the Mercenaries Codex could also give Tau Gue'vesa with reasonable rules without giving them the full IG armory. The only faction that can't benefit from this model is Tyranids (and to a lesser degree Necrons; they could still get some conceivable allies or even specialty rules to run 'enemy' forces being manipulated to their advantage), and they can just get extra stuff as the odd-inhuman-abomination-out.
>>96060323He wants the species to not go extinct and doesn't give much of a shit for individuals or cultural stuff beyond that.
>>96059940/mydudes/ are silver and purple and specialise in dealing with necron tomb worlds that open close to terra

>>96060410>silver and purpleironically that was my necron scheme in dow
>>96060386>doesn't give much of a shit for individualsProbably shouldn't have entrusted his empire to 20 individuals then, huh?
>>96059940My Chaos Warband, the Cult of Destined Death, are bound to a daemon called the Oracle. The Oracle resides in a flagship named The Gilded Cage.
It is from the Gilded Cage that the Oracle sends the Warband forward, bestowing a vision of a glorious death upon each member of the warband. In battle, they seek out their foretold deaths. After they die, they are returned to life via warp magic to the Gilded Cage, and given a new vision.
Each member of the warband wears a golden chain across his left pauldron instead of an insignia.
The upper echelons of the warband, so the Lord and his cabal of Sorcerers and any of his favored like the Master of Executions, are permitted to remove their Gilded Chain to give the lesser marines false hope of eventual freedom.
>>96059940/mydudes/ but they're very orthodox to their founding chapter, like Crimson Fists are to Imperial Fists, so they're canon-adjacent
>>96060426Yeah and then he didn't give enough of a shit about them as individuals, only as tools, so they all developed varying degrees of daddy issues and half of them betrayed him.
I made a custom datasheet for the old FW turret emplacement, but split them between the one that takes a chimera turret and the one that takes a leman russ turret. Do you think this is too over/under powered at 160 points? It'd be for crusade/narrative games only, but I don't want to gimp myself super hard with an unreasonably high points cost, but I also don't want it to be too cheap since it is a leman russ chassis gun.
>>96060467T11 and get rid of the overwatch 4+ clause. Probably make the melee 5+ . Seems cool anon.

I've painted models as a hobby for a long time, I've read the novels and Codexes and love the lore, I want to start an actual 40k army.
The problem is all the armies have their own appeal. And I don't have experience with wargames so I don't know what kind of playstyle I'd like.
All I know is that I don't want to play any kind of Space Marine.
Which army should I pick?
>>96059719this box is particularly scizo non-bo box. warp spiders are S tier excellent objective cappers that can go in any army
wraiths only do well in wraith armies

>>96061102They are solid but you probably want a transport for them because it can be difficult for 6" moving infantry to get good fights. the other option would be to give them the advance and charge guy. I think that unless you are trying to win a GT they probably work well enough.
>>96061091>lol no. This is my clever scheme to generate some human contact in my lifegood luck
anyway I asked because its an easy way to narrow your options so you dont double up and have some fresh match ups
but if anything is on the table then unironically whatever you like the look of the most, rules are temporary and models are forever
if that doesnt work try narrow it down to 3 options and the thread can probably fill you in on how those play

>>96059940My Black Templars are more medieval knight ish than usual for Black Templars.
Sure they fanatically pray to the God Emperor. Sure they righteously smite heathens and heretics. Sure they uphold all of their vows. Sure they have utter disdain for the common peasantry.
But they also fervently fight and protect said peasants. They also do knightly arts like tourneys, and song, dances and ballad writing. They are gallant to fellow servants of the God Emperor.
I like to think my Templars to have all the traits of medieval knights, and not just the grimdark ones. Its not because Space Marines lack sex drives that they can't act as knightly, curteous gentlemen towards fellow pure and devout servants to the God Emperor. But still completely brutal to enemies.
>>96061418>"they're based on knights of the round table"well Luther vs Lion el Gayson is similar to the Battle of Camlann, except with the position of Father and Son ironically switched. Afterwards the Lion played the role of the King asleep under the mountain until they brought him back.

red or teal for these tabards?
>>96060826If you've painted for a while you must surely know the answer. Get models you want to paint. If in doubt start with a single squad or character to test a faction.
In the blind I'd say Eldar or Orks, as quintessential 40K armies that are not marines, and allow you to lean into your preference on the balance of infantry, vehicles, elites, etc. Their list of options is long enough that you can do several styles of armies within the one faction.
>>96061846If your cum looks like asbestos dust you should probably see a doctor anon
>>96061822In lore Space Marines don't need sights at all, and can hip fire more accurately than most snipers shoot down sights because they have targeting assisters in their power armor. GW just quietly buried that lore to allow them to put 9 bajillion retard attachments on every bit of primaris gear.
You could always think of it as in universe. Bellisarius Cawl, the greatest innovator and scientist in the Imperium, is still so retarded that when he redesigned a gun he thought "two sights make shoot two times good. why? statistical evidence shows a single sight can improve a marksmen aim by 87% Therefore two scopes must give an improvement of 349%".
>>96061837Having any ironsight at all is still retarded. Official artwork also has the sight retardedly huge blocking the scope.

Anybody know if any of the stories in this are any good?
>>96061955>>96061861I'm sure they have something like pic rel in their helmet/enhancement. They may have ironsights or scopes, but if they want they have crosshairs floating on their view where their gun is aiming.
>>96061955I haven't kept up with it so I don't know what counts as current lore, but marines as described in all the books I was reading 15+ years ago had a full suite of auto-senses and assists built into their armor. It would detect and identify threats, give them a heads-up display, location mapping, IR vision, even a localized radar or motion sensor depending on what you read. They definitely had a crosshair for their weapons projected into their eyesight. Even outside of their armor they had tons of enhancements and their training made things like aiming a gun second nature.
I might be getting it confused with another separate sci fi book, but I think there was one where a full on encyclopedia cogitator was built in to the armor, so the marine could basically think questions to it and get archival info. The character narrated the feeling as unsettling to have knowledge squirted into his brain on the spot, and suddenly know things.
>>96061888If the grey is final bodyarmor color-- yeah, teal for the guns and as an accent probably wouldn't have been my first choice but it's entirely acceptable and it pops in contrast to the orange and red.

How do we fix the Marines+ problem? Somebody said last thread that the reason why basic marine units feel so weak is because they always have to be by necessity weaker than the bespoke counterparts for the chapters, which means why would anyone use basic Terminators when you may use Deathwing Knights or Wolf terminators. However since these chapters still have access to the basic marine detachments it creates a situation where you can just get the best of both worlds, the better bespoke units and also whichever good rules there are in the base codex.
>>96062577chapter specific marine units shouldn't be better than normal marines, they should be either purely cosmetic or a sidegrade, but the game is not granular enough for fine sidegrades, so they should be purely cosmetic.
>>96062569There's quite a bit of lore for all the kabals with transfers, they're just in older Codexes. Which one did you pick? Seems like everyone goes with last hatred because purple
>>96062577Limit detachments for Codex marines only. Divergent ONLY get their index/codex detachments.
Buff existing detachments. (i.e. undo the Aura nerfs for Ironstorm, unfuck Firesupport in Gladius)
For NON ULTRAMARINE armies, all enhancements are free in the corresponding detachment (Firestorm gets free enhancements if your army is Salamanders)
This way, Codex Space Marines have weaker units but stronger army/detachment rules to make up for it.

That stupid hat the guy from GW was wearing in that teaser may be hope that we harlequinn fans will be eating good soon... You just gotta feel it...
>>96062624Yeah, this was always the easiest and cleanest way to do it but GW won't ever push the idea because marines have to have 20 detachments to choose from at all times.
Really I think it's because they decided to make the divergent chapters supplements to the core Marines codex and someone higher up told them they can't require them to have a book to play the army and then tell them they aren't allowed to use any of the rules from that book. You could easily circumvent this by reprinting generic units in the supplement Codexes though (or just going to all digital rules).
>>96062600this would never happen honestly because these models are a big part of why people want to play the army and rules sell
>>96062626They... Already did that. That's the current rules. And has been for half a year.

And then they went ahead and did it. Turns out, when your units hit like orks, you gotta drop the points, and they went a little overboard with admech.
>>96062856At some point they decided that both do the "premier shooting armies" needed to hot on 4s and then jump through hoops to get back to 3+ shooting. This made Tau and AdMech both awful for a very long time and despite constant buffs neither has fully recovered.

GW have a shit contract with their printer in china, and they're massively constrained on packaging and book orders. Knights don't move much plastic, because there isn't much to buy for a knight army. So they've been prioritising the armies that sell.
They've bumped up thousand sons, death guard, world eaters, emperors children, and space wolves ahead of knights.
They were all supposed to come after the knight book which was previewed last year.
They'll probably squeeze black templars and grey knights out before them now too.

People call it Primarch slop, and for sure, primarchs appear regularly, but they do not have the biggest page count. Its mostly about Marines and Humans, and its usually the humans perspective that the narrators focus on. Thats why every Legion, and after Istavaan, every plotline has their own cast of humans (often with insane plotarmor).
