Actually it'd be funny a bit if he got stuck in the hopeful place for a few days accidentally. Between zhon li getting swept up in the welcome back and him not realizing the pendant was a recommendation. The minute Zhon li gets back he's gonna have a lot of eyes on him from the higher levels of the sect. That sort of attention can't be good for someone just starting to dip there toes into this. The pendant thing was legitmately what he thought would work best. He just figured it was obvious Venti would show it or they'd see it at some point.

So have another little scene. I worry I made Jumper/Venti a little to nice for it though.

The sun filters through a high window as the door to the temples last remaining spare room. Now a temporary clinic, cracks open and in steps a particular former traveler.
"Hey there Hero. How are you feeling?" Venti asks. Carrying in a tray of Red soup and a sandwich. He looks over to the bored looking blonde girl stuck in bed and staring up at the ceiling.
She lurches up at the sound of the door unlocking. Grinning from ear to ear.
"I'm alright. Better now that your here! What took you so long? Usually your here by now."
"Well I wanted to cook up something special for you. And besides didn't you tell me just yesterday you can go about a week without having to eat Mrs. Cultivator?" He chuckles placing the tray on a nearby nightstand. Sitting down by it.
"Just because I can doesn't mean I don't like to eat!" Alicia huffs crossing her arms. "And besides I'm bored stuck here all day and night. I can only make so many new spell matrixes in my head before it starts to get a little old."
"Heh I can only imagine. I'd of gone crazy. Well I hope you like Tomato soup and grilled cheese."
He holds out the plate to the magical girl like cultivator. "Grilled cheese? What's that?" Alicia asks taking the plate and sandwich. Taking a bite out of it and chewing slowly.

"What?" Venti tilts his head. "Do you not have grilled cheese here? It's just bead and cheese and butter grilled."
"No!-It's good! Innovative!" The cultivator says with gusto. Devouring the sandwich in moment, grabbing the soup not long after as she wolfs it down. Venti just grins trying to keep himself from grinning as he digs into the bag at his side.
"Glad someone enjoys my cooking at least. Though aside from food... you said you like adventure stories, right? I got something from the trader last time I went down to the village." He pulls out a thin paperback book and drops it at her side with a soft thump.

He finally says once the magical girl moves her hand. "But... alright. I'll drop the topic for now. I'm just glad we're both fine." The herder sighs grinning.
"Yeah I am to." Alicia nods closing her eyes. "I just wish we were able to get that spiritual bluegrass after all."

"Oh that?" Venti's grin only seems to become even wider.
"Well...that wolf seemed to be a one off thing apparently. The forest's fairly safe aside from that so I ended up just keeping a close eye on billy when he wandered off again. Followed him and I think I found it." He raises a bag that was hanging off of his belt. Opening it to reveal it full of gently glowing blue grass blades.
Alicia just squeals as she suddenly grabs onto the goat herder hugging him. "Oh my goddesses you are the best! You've just made this especially worth it!"
"Ehe... well I try." Venti mumbles grinning.

Aye, It's a bit of a lightbulb moment for her when she realizes. It helps that the world as a whole can sometimes get reincarnators or other isekai's even if they usually fall on the orthodox cultivator side of things/region of the world.
I imagine Hyrules about the size of the roman empire and with stuff beyond it in the greater world various different flavors of more standard xianxia stuff. Maybe a few tiny kingdoms set up by scripture cultivators away from hyrule that tend not to last given the attention they can draw.

Here’s a thought. You’ll be going to other worlds eventually, and Darkness is the element of possibilities. When the time comes, shift into Twili form (natural Darkness affinity makes it easier to navigate), use Darkness to enter an overarching Twilight Realm that’s a world of pure Darkness element, drift away from the setting, start traveling until you draw close to a different setting, and use Light to shift out of the Twilight Realm and arrive in the new setting.

It is! Not sure what stage that'd be appropriate to start doing that in. But as cultivation goes on a physical form to a degree does increasingly become not so strictly necessary and a bit for aesthetic. Still that change could be good if only for expanding someone's horizons and mind. And I could see venti wishing to do it to try and get a better idea of what life is like for midna. His general philosophy thats is/will emerge he wishes to experience all aspects of life a bit. Well all non demonic aspects. At his own pace. I think God Body gets there with the third stage. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that God Body is the worst at shapeshifting. Divine Delusion can pull it off before you even finish the first stage, and Soul Compass gets there in the second.

Yeah, by the end of the first stage in Divine Delusion you’re a capable mage, while at the end of the third stage you’re a psychic of immense power, you’re almost impossible to kill, you can create extra bodies which all have your full conciseness, can see into the future, can give the life story of a person you didn’t know existed until two seconds ago just by looking at them, and you can do magic by deciding what you want to happen and throwing magical power at reality until it complies.

yeah I was running numbers a bit. A thousand years plus years probably. What to do after is a future Venti problem. Getting to Stage 2 alones probably going to take 200+ years.

So this might be half baked a bit. But I had the idea that since Hylian cultivation did originate out of world. The places where hyrule has influence tend to be at least a bit different metaphysically. Like regular cultivators use Qi or some such thing potentially. And its a amalgamation of basically elemental essence/Ki/Magic. They don't divide it up or make that finer separation.

I sort of imagine the changes being to connect that land with the sort of leylines of Ki/Elements that are in greater hyrule a bit. Sure they were already there to a degree. But strengthening them and not just using them as natural resources to use up inherently. I imagine in hyrule there's also probably a bit more demons in the triune scriptures sense of trying to destroy them unfortunately. Because the scripture cultivators create more then they take. Unlike other cultivator societies. And the void doesn't like that.

The broad concept is that the Endstone can rewrite the past, but the not the future. If something is happening, it can make it happen in a different way, but not unhappen. Like, you can defend yourself against a mugging by making the guy retroactively have brought a knife instead of a gun or making him not have any of his two friends, but not remove the mugging entirely. So not much here but I wanted to bookmark it a bit. May do a scene later thats a few touch notes of what went on on the year long walk that follows this.

The wind was still today. Venti thought to himself watching the goats graze in their pasture. There were no lessons in medicine nor the dabbling into generalized alchemy that the old man had started to surprisingly veer into last week. On days like these the world felt like it stood still. It was nice if not a little bit dull. He wonders what Alicia was up to... wherever she was. Ever since she had recovered, she made a habit of popping up for surprise visits every other week or so. Probably fighting some monster of the week or searching for some artifact or another to bring back home with her.

By the time he gets to the entrance. The guests were already inside. The door left ajar, it was easy to slip in behind them. He was met with five strangers. Their backs to him. Three in white robes and two others in armor. Guards they seemed.
The whole group though regardless of garb had their eyes locked on Zhon li as the man at there head. In slightly more fanciful robes then the other two speaks slowly, carefully.
"-Though we are honored you've decided to grace our temple in the interim. And grateful for your work in restoring it We do... need the temple now for the purposes naturally given to a temple. So we must ask you vacate it venerable one."

Venti blinks, surprised as he skirts the edge of the hall. Walking over to zhon li's side. "Leave? So... suddenly? What about the repairs?"
"You finished them all." The old man says simply shrugging.
"Besides, you said you wanted to do more than just herd goats one day right? Consider this a opportunity." He laughs clasping venti on the shoulder and gently pushing him to the door to the temple's quarters.
"Now go pack boy! Leave me to discuss things with his holiness here." He grins watching the young man vanish behind the temple's thick wooden door.
"...Who is that? Your servant? A Student of yours" The priestly man at the front of the group asks carefully once venti was gone
. Zhon li just becomes a bit thoughtful as he looks back at the group that had come to ever so respectfully evict them.
"...Yes I guess he is."

And so venti's life at ordin temple came to a end that day. And what took its place was the longest journey he'd ever been on. And a path that would stretch even past their eventual destination. But that's a story for another day.

I think its gonna be a little more then a year. But Its still a long time for someone like him. He didn't travel fall initially before arriving in Ordin. Possibly a little. I admit the heart containers would mostly be a way to buff him a little on the way to the sect and so he's a little sturdier for the road. Judgement has been passed. It takes considerable patience for me to delay the verdict, but such is my commitment to professionalism that when the Vanguard detected mysterious energy signatures swirling around the solar system, I informed them of my children's arrival. And when the Vanguard learned I had children, it panicked and demanded I wait for a representative to sign off on whatever decision I had made.

That is why I have to watch Ikora and Lodi work through their pity party while Orin alternates between bemoaning her lack of agency and demanding the Nine speak through her anyway for hints on what they're up against.

"I can't believe this, I decide my fate!" declares Ikora, and I point out to her that if she really wants to make an issue of it I could give her an Echo, or Discipleship, and she could pull another Nine into materiality to teach them a lesson.

She thinks over the implications of a second black hole hitting the solar system, and thanks me but demurs.

"My world is GONE?!" demands Lodi, and so we take him back to Earth where all the infrastructure of the Golden Age has been restored. And patiently explain to him that it need not be gone forever, for I have created a Sundial (and worked out the kink of confusing simulations for bonafide timelines) dedicated for Earth. His world is a literal stroll away through Vex-forged corridors. Though we remind him his world will meet it's destruction.

He hesitates, but only briefly, before thanking us and leaving. I watch him go, uncaring for the potential paradoxes caused by a man only allowed to take as much actionable evidence of his travels as he can carry, and who just wants to live a quiet life. And more importantly whose return thwarts the desires of the Nine.

"Well. That went well" says Ikora.

"It did" I agree.

"...here's my signature. Give it hell"

Mercury.

The stunted dwarf of a rock burbles hurried experiences and pleas at me: It's expectations of barbarism, thwarted. A dog pet, and the delight this inspired in the vaster lifeform. Kindness, celebrated. Our Weapon, it implores, all I seek is coexistence.

"Then I propose a business transaction" I tell it, finally. "Relief from your pain, in exchange for a reallocation of resources"

And it agrees. The Vex do not inhabit time as the Nine do, but they are more skilled at cheating it. Can construct devices to siphon or harness dark matter. With their proprietary paracausality that I embody, they construct a number of rings which the Weaver seeds her strands into that use Darkness to smother the agony of being Taken, cracked and terraformed. I of Nine breathes a sigh of relief under it's brave face, and directs more effort towards manipulating the production of laser weapons on it's surface. A week later, all Guardians enjoy surprise discounts on tracer rifle sales.

Venus.

The scoured home of the Ishtar Collective greets me with entrepreneurial optimism, buoyed by it's sibling's bargain. It speaks of how the Gardener once considered it as fertile soil. An opportunity - yet renewable, it entreats, our interests - need not - mutually exclude.

"If we can count on your support against the council" I state, "On behalf of the Traveller, I will renew a discarded possibility"

And it agrees. The Oracle sees the schema of the Traveller's efforts, and remembers them in Darkness, then in Light. Verdant blooms sprout across Venus where she shifts back a layer of reality-and through creative interpretation, starts the evolution of one organism in particular that could one day be a suitable body. II of Nine signals it's gratitude for being chosen as the first Nine to have an Ultimate One|suitable celestial vessel grown for it.

Earth.

Then project the image of Lodi with his family, just as it rejoices that my paracausality has inadvertently spared III from death. NOT ALL OF US ARE COLD AND UNCARING AS OUR SPHERES, it booms, SOME WOULD JOIN YOU AS BROTHERS IN ARMS.

"Demonstrate that resolve" I tell it, "and Mars will remain as patrolled as Earth"

There is no need for further consideration. After returning the Golden Age, the first thing the Vanguard did with those resources was set up a Martian colonisation effort-something for which IV is overjoyed about to once again have continental-scale urban developments sprawling over it. It does offer an exotic set of dark matter ammunition though, so in the spirit of cooperation my Vex create a new array of orbital defence units mimicking it's favourred ordinance.

The Sculptress bends Light and Darkness into a Nova Bomb rimed with Cosmic Ice. Then drops it into the Great Red Eye. V of Nine trembling in horror as it realises what she has done to it: Implanted a white hole bomb that will collapse the planet, explode it, and freeze the explosion in place so it will spend geological lengths of time in crystalised agony if it ever gets uppity at me again.

"We are leaving one behind, father" says the Weaver, unwinding and rewinding herself with the thrill of coming violence. "Let me silence it's disrespect for you"

"Good. Let it stew in the fate it knows now awaits it. Do not give it the dignity of our attention yet" I order as we drift past the sixth planet in silent contempt.

...

Uranus.

Imagery of cosmic spatial tesseracts and planetary shackles dissolves to abstract percolations of panic as it realises what I intend to it's sibling. It resorts to allegations of bad faith about the core planets (irrelevant, I trust none of them). We implore + our Weapon (you) + to see + the opportunities of collusion, it pleads, do you + not also + resent those + limited by linearity?

"Not nearly as much as I resent those who kill freely and without consequence then have the gall to beg for understanding" I tell it, icier than any wind in it's depths. "Mass scattering you would not be difficult"

No + stop + please + I'll do anything, it screams in panic.

And as insurance, the Weaver binds Solar with Strand into a series of artificial suns tethered to Uranus' orbit. At the slightest twitch, they can be made to collide with each other-making the planet very bright, for a very brief amount of time. VII of Nine sobs in pathetic relief as it's sibling balks at our coming.

Neptune.

The next of the entities tries to hide it's thoughts rather than make any kind of plea. Covetousness towards the Veil concealed by whipping winds. Cynical looting of the battle-fallen hidden in deepest blue. cooperation = reconsidered = offered, it conveys unconvincingly.

"Surely a being of your intellect" I tell it with biting scorn, "knows better than to cooperate with a demonstrably hostile power"

Extrasolar threats = always present, it says desperately. I could be = your lookout = sensor platform = watchdog.

"Then I will ensure you are fit for purpose" I promise. And for a moment, VIII of Nine thinks it is getting off scott free. And then I turn upon it again. "Sculptress. Oracle. A". Uranus' rotation comes to a halt, it's atmosphere freezes further, it's substance crystalises. It's tethered puppeteer looks on in mounting concern the entire gas giant is frozen into a single lump of cosmic ice. The effect is not unlike an icecream headache for the writhing mass attached to it.

And then, we all give VI of Nine our undivided attention.

The Nine collectively beg for mercy.
The Vanguard look on in stark confusion.
"Fetch, girls" I order.
And my children lunge at Saturn like starving dogs striking a pig.

The Sculptress smashes it's rings and reforges them with Sword Logic, striking the planet with them.
The Weaver whips celestial winds into disarray.
The Oracle strikes hundreds of dark matter limbs directly, amputating VI.

Saturn is "thrown" towards a localised singularity that exerts gravity on it and only it, screaming in panic. It's petty ambitions, it's prideful malignity, all cast aside in knowledge it's own hubris has brought it here. All it can see is itself split in two, as both halves burn and die, and splatter upon it's sibling's mantle. I am deaf to it's cries. As IX, the Sun|would-be mediator, recoils in horror as it realises this is also my opinion on what I think about it's attempts to mediate the Nine's conflict.

Then the Traveller speaks. A flash of light || show this fearful child mercy, as I have shown so many others || leaves behind a mother's touch on my cheek.

"You need only ask" I reply softly. Saturn's motion is arrested-but not ended. But the agony of incineration, of obliteration, of a Resonance-carved Final Shape designed to prolong it's agony infinitely, that ends as I defy fate. It won't stop crying.

What an earsore it is, even in defeat.

The Vanguard spend the next day patiently explaining to the rest of humanity that yes, Saturn is now sandwiched between Earth and Venus' orbits, and yes, it's still crying.

They've always been sorta alive. Specifically the Nine have been established as conscious strands of dark matter animated by sentient life and accreted by the gravity of the planets (and the sun, but excluding Pluto. Not a real planet, not a real Nine). For years they've been kinda spooky and ominous, but generally believed to be broadly in favour of the Guardians.

Now in the current expansion, Edge of Fate, they're actually doing a thing. And that thing is civil war that has culminated in Maya Sundaresh using the Echo of Command to pull III, Earth's Nine, from the fourth dimension into the third which killed it by turning it into a black hole. Oh yeah, the current expansion also established that the Nine are /more achronal than the Vex/ and better at manipulating paracausality, to the extent of boasting that everything from the Red War to Oryx to the Witness was orchestrated by their schemes. And they apparently literally ensured Ikora would be a Guardian by having a train hit her (and threw the same train at her in the present out of spite for her basically running away from a job interview to be their first choice as Emissary).

At least, that's what THE NINE are claiming. Bear in mind one is in fact actually dead as the result of a being the Guardians beat into a retreat with some effort, and that while III indicated it set up it's own death to warn the Guardians from some incoming catastrophe set in motion by the Nine's proxy war which can only be solved by "binding the Nine", it is still in fact dead.

And death is AGONISING for the Nine because they feel any pain forever. Being achronal fucking sucks since, for example, if one of their planets is about to be blown up they feel all that pain until it does. Also apparently unlike the Vex, due to their powers being about immersion in time rather than learning to cheat around it they can only bring things forward in time, rather than send them back.

Well, at the very start of my chain-my first jump was Pokemon Trainer (in which I had no reason to use nukes), then I progressed to Infamous (in which nukes kinda fell by the wayside in favour of superpowers) and then went to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (see Pokemon Trainer). The next few jumps after that followed a generally schizo set of shifts between technology levels (Super Mario RPG, Shovel Knight, Generic Wuxia, Metal Gear Revengeance, Borderlands, the oldest Sonic the Hedgehog jumps, MMX, MMZ) ranging from too primitive to use nukes to so advanced as to having long since left nukes behind (but often crippled by various ambient disasters). I wouldn't say I was a godling, if I'm being honest. But I would say between the Conduit video powers, the VWES system as well as the other advantages of MMZ level technology, the super speed and the nanomachines enchanted by celestial Marioverse magic I was someone who didn't need the usual reasons for gods either.

By the time I got to Red Alert 3 which had both the greatest incentive and opportunity to use nukes, Kemmlerian plant necromancy had become a much better option in almost every circumstance.

Fair enough, I've seen enough Vex builds by now to know you're in good company. The Vex are weird. They simultaneously have by far the grandest onscreen terraforming/construction feats, are nightmarish in lore, and also regularly get fucked over by anyone waist deep in paracausality. The endless excuse is that Vex are like a really advanced slime mold that exert only the minimum efficient effort to deal with anything instead of zerg rushing the universe with their full numbers and capabilities unless they've 100% simulated all of it. The thing about the Vex is that the way they think is so alien to other lifeforms, /they perceive no difference between their simulation and reality/. There are varying levels of shunning but it all boils down to “this thing does not fit the pattern, it is not truly Vex”. In the case of the Sol Divisive, as literal worshippers of the force they predicted would destroy all of existence (or do something so absolute as to be functionally indistinguishable) someday they’re sort of treated like creepy murderhobos given they themselves wield and spread a potentially apocalyptic paracausal force. How do you all treat Item choices that give you starting money between jumps? Does each option taken get treated like choices that boost your strength or other traits where they're subject to diminishing returns, do they only give the amount of currency once with no benefit past that jump, does it give you that amount of currency at the start of every jump, but the actual currency doesn't change so it's useless, or do you just free ball and each time a choice is taken it adds to the lump sum of starting cash?

I might have to rework some things to make it work because I was imagining the Empress/Zelda would be at the peak of the second realm. Though let me throw my own concept out to see how it sounds.

My own idea was maybe Hylia was the First Zelda. One of the first cultivators and the first Mortal to ever actually ascend to divinity through the cultivation styles. Basically, being the founder of the whole Hyrule/Dynasty thats ruling the empire to this day.

Though this does raise the question of how far people usually get with the scriptures. How common is getting to the divine realm or even the immortal realm and such.

Here’s a scene idea. At the end of your pilgrimage you meet an Oracle trio, and since you have satisfied the gods with your devotion, Nayru offers you some knowledge, Farore gives you something relating to life, and Din gives you a musical instrument crafted by the hand of the Goddess Din herself.

My answer would be that people can usually reach divinity, but most cultivators haven’t done so yet. Sure, you can become a god eventually, but life is out there waiting to be lived, and since you’re immortal and don’t have to worry about Triune cultivators stabbing you in the back, why rush?

Oh that could be fun... Think If I do this maybe it'll be a thirty year affair. Do the good deeds and tasks related to the goddess but maybe tie in some bigger quest or task related to it to. Try to earn that saint title. Would be interesting to see how that'd manifest during his time at the palace for a century to.

Alright, cool. I think I'll do that then. A icon for scripture cultivators and basically the golden goddess's big success story that gave them hope this whole process could theoretically work. Even if Zelda the first/Hylia was incredibly blessed and immensely gifted in her life.

Yeah, that makes sense to me. Maybe have a handful of gods. Though I on a smaller scale related to this I was thinking of the inner sect basically being its own pocket realm constructed as a sort of sanctuary away from demons, mainstream cultivators and so on. A sort of paradise where they don't need to worry about mortal concerns. But it'd be its considered in bad taste to spend a lot of time there. Can't do any good if your just shutting yourself away with others like you all the time.

That would be interesting. I was sort of visualizing this zelda as being immensely vigilant. And perhaps staying on the throne longer then most rulers in hyrule. To the point she kind of did stymie her cultivation at the peak of the second realm just because she thought the empire needs a steady hand. And perhaps a bit of mistrust in her own heirs competency. Having her be a child of hylia could be interesting with that dynamic. Especially if Hylias present and there's only ever been two rulers.

I could see her definitely being a lot more present then Nayru, Faroe and Din. Probably just a little more approachable to. Was going to have venti talk with her occasionally at the palace.
