>>96232444Honestly I like the visceral fleshy look. Battlemechs are already sorta half-organic anyways, they use muscle, they have an organic brain, they conform to a skeletal structure, they're difficult for electronics to track, and they typically evoke animalistic shapes.
>>96232444It's better than them continuing to rape the past.

>>96232486They keep publishing "Historicals", and most of them retcon a bunch of stuff. Some of this is intentional to introduce new tech further back in the timeline because they think it's cool, but most of it is just Catalyst's non-existent fact checking.

>>96232776Nothing directly game-related, but I've been quietly working on some fanfiction where the Snow Ravens intercept the Outbound Light before they hit Huntress and manage to parlay that into a reserve slot. They're activated to help the Bears instead of the Vipers, and things go well from there. In the end, they end up withdrawing from the Homeworlds with the Bears, and the two Clans form some sort of joint occupation zone, with the two Clans "equal", though the Bears might be more equal than the Ravens. >>96233024>AU stuff never really does it for me because I can't even be assed to read all the canon stuff. In my mind, fanfiction is for filling in blanks in canon and I haven't even found all the blanks. To each his own. I was thinking about the different approaches for hybrid states implemented by the Bears, the Ravens, and the other Clanners, and how the Bears and Ravens were both "nice" but very different, remembered that they were allegedly allies, and wanted to explore how it would work out in practice.
So far:
-The Bears are appalled at the Ravens' infighting.
-The Ravens are starting to learn from the Bears to do a little less infighting.
-The Raven Watch is proving surprisingly effective (because of their legacy of infighting).
-Each maintain their own capital, and largely maintain their own territory, but they've also started an experiment with joint government of a planet
-Focht, trying to use as many of his forces as possible, challenged the Ravens to a naval battle at Tukayyid. They defeated ComStar handily. Meanwhile, they also had an objective on the ground which they lost because the khans were busy in space so the two Galaxy Commanders on the ground spent the entire battle trying to sabotage each other more than actually assault the city they were supposed to take.
-There's a decent amount of Warriors serving exchange tours, but discussions of establishing an actual mixed unit remain very hypothetical.
-Every time the "Council of Khans" addresses local officials, people think it's hilarious how big the Bears are (neither is an Elemental, but both Bjorn Jorgenssen and Aletha Kabrinski were very large) and how small the Ravens are.
My "main character" is a Bear naval officer serving as an exchange officer on a Raven WarShip.

Hi. I did a homebrew thing. I'm thinking it's probably too powerful but my fren wanted some of these numbers the way they are. Does anyone have any feedback?
> Standard Energy Shield Matrix
This equipment can only be installed in Mech units that have a fusion engine installed (SFE, XLFE, LFE).
The shield generator takes up 2 slots in the center torso and 1 slot in each side torso, for a total of 4 slots used. Each slot weighs .5 tons, for a total of 2 tons used.
This unit has a shield pool of [7 x the number of undamaged slots] (so the unit has a total shield pool of 28 when the system is undamaged). When this unit takes damage from the front or side firing arcs while the shield is active, damage is subtracted from the shield pool.
The shield matrix has no effect against physical attacks.
At the end of the heat phase units with shield generators may choose to charge shields at the cost of extra heat buildup. Changing (or recharging) the shield costs 1 heat for every 2 points of shield pool. You may never exceed beyond your max capacity during recharge.
The shield matrix, while a powerful technology, has a chance of overloading from too much weapons fire. Upon the accumulation of 20+ or more damage, the unit must do an "Overload check" at the end of the firing phase.
When this unit overloads, the player must make a flat 2d6 check against [1 + <number of turns the shield has been active> (minimum 1) + <number of times this unit has been hit with a PPC since the shield has been activated>].
If the player fails this check, roll a floating TAC against their front facing arc.
>>96234282Incredibly broken, that's how you get invincible mechs.
>>96234332What if the overload check was:
>A flat 2d6 check against [6 + <the number of times this unit has been hit by a PPC since the shield has been activated>]Because that's my general sentiment as well. I was arguing for a minimum of 8 slots (2 in CT, and then one in each other component), as well as having the shield generator become non-functional if any slot is destroyed.
What would you change?
I suggested he test it on a Dasher-H by removing the MASC and a couple small lasers.
...I think I wrote it out wrong, but the intent was that the player chose the amount of shield that charges the round before it actually regenerates.
>>962343582t on anything that can get a +4TMM will be broken. You need to severely reduce the damage nullification, or it'll invalidate most light mech hunting weapons.
>>962343580.5 tons, 1 crit, absorbs 3pts of damage if there's a shield generator in that location instead of a total pool.
>>96234282I don't think energy shields have a place in Battletech thematically. Locational damage is such a crucial part of play, the idea of being able to interrupt that without a physical defense breaks a large number of core world assumptions.
Here are a few alternative technologies or ideas that could work without interrupting core setting conceits:
- Chaff Smoke Poppers that cover a mech in laser diffusing smoke
- Trophy systems to detonate prematurely ballistic weapons; I'd recommend them being locational with the added benefit of being able to be mounted on a shield. Maybe it will still work on missiles, but I'd be careful to step on AMS and LAMS's toes.
- More kinds of applique armor, such as discardable chobam plates that allow a mech to exceed normal armor limits at the expense of tonnage efficiency and reduced speed (something like you give up a quarter of your armor allowance in a location and a crit slot to get half again your armor as chobam (125%), if it gets crit the applique is blown clean off). Chobam can be jettisoned prior to moving, restoring normal movement at the expense of any remaining applique armor.
>>96232656What is going on with the panthers right arm its sitting higher in the socket
>>96234472They work for Earthsiege because there's a weapon meta written around shield/armour damage. Blue Shield does mimick that to some extend by slightly nerfing CERPPCs.
>>96232444You have convinced me. Not that gothic is exciting, but that CGL employees do stalk this board and push their garbage here as part of their marketing.
>>96234595I think it's just the angle and shadows.
>>96233834>This is the weirdest and most specific attempt at trolling I've seen in fifteen years on 4chan.Nah. Not even close. You're just saying that because it's being aimed directly at you.
>>96234282I'd say make it where damage is turned into heat, and make the shield directional and in the direction it is in you can't shoot through. Also make it where missiles gain a +2 modifier because you're throwing up so much of a signature you can be seen from orbit.
>>96234472>energy shields But they already exist in lore, Solaris 7 really dosen't do the setting any favors.
>>96234282I'm fine with this, but it needs to be a Pin Point Barrier System. Having it on should generate heat, whether it's blocking any shots or not. Blocking shots should also requires a successful PSR.
The tech should be rough and difficult to use, but in the hands of a skilled pilot, it can have some value. It also would fit in with the roots of Battletech too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdBfRYHCy5k
>>96235204The Solaris 7 "shield" is a heavily layered series of defenses that only works because it's a fixed location with a massive fusion generator in the basement. It requires physical components running all the way up and down the entire length of the shield. You can't make that mobile. Best you can do on a mobile unit is the Blue Shield, which is a PPC dampener field turned inside-out.
>>96235218>what is tech development That's the thing, once it exists in setting you open up the ability to miniaturize it, look at the Mackie for Christ's sake. It's better to make the barrier made from the same material cockpit glass is made from, and make it thicc as fuck combined with IFF's that make it flat out impossible to fire at the glass.
>>96235218Blue Shield isn't even an energy field, just a complicated chaff system that might as well be fairy dust.
>pulse lasers
Does anybody else think that the +1 modifier for pulse lasers is kinda bullshit? I mean the very description of pulse lasers has it where they do what they do for armor penetration and in games they really aren't more accurate than regular lasers.
>fix
Roll for criticals and outright ignores reflective armor.
>>96235282Normal laser's like a laser pointer, pulse laser's like a laser strobe. They pump the energy over much faster than standard lasers.
The real bullshit is pulse lasers doing bonus damage to infantry.
>>96235339>extra damage Yeah that also dosen't make sense, if anything pulse lasers should be LESS effective because the duration of fire is very short compared to regular lasers.
>>96235363I'd assume the TW values are an average of how much of the energy actually ends up on target, which is where the pulse lasers could edge out over trying to hold a laser pointer on somebody's center mass while being a giant, jogging robot.
>>96235247There has to be proper understanding of the tech to do that, and the stadium shield is firmly under the lostech handwave. If they did have any sort of capability to reproduce it then you can bet youd be seeing it on important things like mech factories or fortresses. Battlemechs have been around for hundreds of years and we didnt start seeing compact versions of basic mech components like the gyro until the 3060s, even the SLDF hadn't figured that one out.
Reasonably I think if it was developed further Warships would be able to have them. A prohibitively expensive defense shield makes sense on a prohibitively expensive warship but not on a dropship. Since it requires a physical structure to emit it there wouldnt be a perfect 360 degree bubble and it'd be directional and place even more emphasis on facing
Another basing test, this time i used kitty litter, aqarium sand and woodlime and good helping of brown and green wash.
>>96235363>>96235403Wasn't the fluff that because its a series of bursts and not a constant beam the damage concentrates because its not making a constant flow of molten armor over the impact spot
>>96235403In games (MW5/MWO) regular lasers have a "stream" while pulse lasers fire a short burst, and while regular lasers require dwell time to inflict damage pulse lasers should dump damage into a target.
>>96235441>series of burstsBut very short lived. Regular lasers last anywhere between 1-3 seconds while pulse lasers barely last a second, it's a 3 round burst vs 10-15 rounds full auto.
>>96235105who the fuck even asked for gothic? what 'market research' did they even do, a feasability study? a business plan?
what fucking MBA went
>'why yes trying to do the same thing as James Workshop will totally work if we directly compete with them explicitly and totally won't backfire on us as a massive expense that makes us NOTHING.'this whole fucking things sounds like Porchbux mcGee stole another million, so they're trying to cover it up by paying some chinese 150 K to crap out some half assed shit. and then they can TAX WRITE OFF the losses to try and make up for porchbux thieving cuntery.
or some equally cockamamie, retarded, ass backwards 'scheme'.
>>96235483Most likely it's trying to capture some 40k "fans" through aesthetics while completely ignoring why 40k players play 40k. If they REALLY wanted to get 40k fans they'd update Battletroops and make different models and maps.
>>96235430The thing there is that the Steiner shield projects linearly. The systems that make the shield are in the ground directly below the shield and directly in line with the plane of the shield, and if a mech wanted to disable them, it could just drill through the ground until it hits the emitter directly. If the warship wanted that specific shield, it would need to have a boom arm tennis racket looking thing and wouldn't be able to place the shield generating components behind the shield.
>>96235483>what 'market research' did they even doThere usual market research and focus group testing, where they ask the danger-hair and trans/queer employees what they think, relying heavily on the opinion of that troon who is really into shadowrun that admitted to only ever playing two games of battletech.

>>96235590>That's pretty normal for companies.Actually it isn't, it's even illegal.

>>96235600>a companies only purpose is to generate profit for shareholdersSuch a bullshit ruling and responsible for so much of what's wrong today.
>>96235981Yes it is the foundation of the modern degradation of the west based on obsolescence and outsourcing of manufacture to third world nations.
It's also why the tariff circus of the USA is meaningless, so long as any corporation can find a cheaper means of production than hiring legal americans in the USA, they are legally required to use that cheaper option, and if they are forced to stateside production they are required to go the route of illegal workforce if it is available, spending more than is absolutely physically necessary on manufacture and labor can literally see a CEO go to prison.

Do we know anything about the telecommunication within a planet/system that doesn't involve HPG?
>no smartphone or internet?
>>96238677No, because Battletech is not a product of the 21st century, it's from before smartphones and many other technologies existed. Battletech computers operate on kilobytes of storage and memory.
Battletech is alternate universe and apparently in that universe the correct programming for moving big mech bodies was found, the programming is stupid simple, but our universe just hasn't stumbled onto it yet and we'll smack ourselves in the face when we do and wonder how we didn't think of that sooner.
But Battletech never got our level of processors or storage hardware.
>>96238677We know that cellphones exist and that civilians use them since a classic example of schizotech is a businessman talking on a cellphone as he rides to work on a horse.
No smartphones. The Clans have the Chatterweb, which is sort of like IRC, but we don't have any evidence of a more sophisticated Internet than that.
>Battletech computers operate on kilobytes of storage and memory.I'll never not laugh at Phelan Kell talking about the lost art of burning EPROMs.
>apparently in that universe the correct programming for moving big mech bodies was found, the programming is stupid simple, but our universe just hasn't stumbled onto it yet and we'll smack ourselves in the face when we do and wonder how we didn't think of that sooner. It was probably done in analog. You can make very sophisticated analog control systems, it's just that no one bothers anymore because they're very hard to design and test. But there's absolutely no reason that you couldn't control something like a BattleMech's motion with analog systems only.
>>96237241>front cockpit The top mounted "Mad Dog/Vulture" cockpit makes far more sense for the Archer than the Macross front cockpit, and the Archer in MW5 dies easy to cockpit shots than anything else.
>reeeeeeCool, tabletop is the most removed element from actual combat there is.
>TT is real battletech Yeah and Hentai is real sex too.
>>96238834The top mounted cockpit is from Macross anon. The destroid Spartan's front torso contains a gun cluster.
Man, BT came out too late. It would have been extremely funny if BattleMech operated using tens of thousands of these per mission

>>96238744One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of this stuff is meant to operate or at least survive transit in space. Modern computers are very vulnerable to cosmic ray damage and such, so most spacecraft in real life keep things as analog as possible, and that's not even getting into the weird stuff that Hyperspace is supposed to do to AIs.
>>96238677>smartphone or internetFuck no. Even on Terra or the Clans the "internet" would be at it's infancy, and don't even think about smartphones because that was even more sci fi than energy weapons and FTL travel. Battletech is, at its core, cassette futurism and any attempt to "update for modern audiences" should be ruthlessly cut down.
Even the 80's is futuristic to many Battletech technologies, the list goes too far to list but nearly all the coms, iif/C3 targeting and outright doctrine would be horribly outdated by the 1980's.
>>96238715>kilobytes RAM? Yes. ROM? FUCK NO.
Battletech computers are very limited in their ability, but outright storage (particularly memory cores) can reach Terabytes and not even stress the system. If Battletech computers were graded side by side with ours their computers would be durable to the point of taking bullets and still be working after 200 years of shitty storage. Meanwhile our computers would weigh orders of magnitude less while being less durable and having lesser storage.
Battletech computers would make Windows 95 look like alien technology while having enough storage to hold years worth of shitposts.

>>96240669>Our brains "know" how big things should be and it's disturbing when we see things that aren't.I understand that that's only calibrated for objects up to four meters. Anything taller than that is just big.
>>96240799The wording is not entirely clear. It probably means a touchscreen, it could also mean that the holographic screen just turns on when you touch the thing and you use the keyboard after that, maybe it could even be the case that it has a hybrid input system that either allows full usability with the screen and keyboard or only partial control through either input.
The concept and practical use of a touchscreen as patents, proof of concept and actual commercial product existed for decades before this was written in the 90's, though it wouldn't really catch on for another decade, so it's highly likely the writer was aware of this feature and had it in mind when writing about BT's personal computers.
I mean we did have touchscreen "smartphones" on the market even in 1994.
>>96240873Capacitive inputs have been a thing for most of a century.

>>96240958>Not having MG crates being yeeted by the Erinyes or using any other Wobbie super scienceJihad doesnt come up much on reddit huh
>>96241303Because theyre advantage has always been a fluff thing and maybe in campaigns if theyre going that hard with it. Video games dont go that hard into the actual rules for modifying and even then players ignore it. Did a modded coop campaign in MW5 with my friends and they had us sit and burn time for 6 in game months just to wait for their mech mods to finish.
>>96241381The restrictions of omnimechs are just as much fluff but PGI still decided to restrict their construction rules heavily.
>>96232444There are all of three useful things from it:
>8 new variants>Light Blazer>2 new mapsThey fucked up the abominations so you can't even make your own kaiju v mech battle stuff, the one thing that'd maybe redeem buying it. >>96240778The data market near star ports is probably interesting. Street merchants with a bunch of blank data storage devices so they can copy bootlegs of whatever new media you have to sell them, next to baskets full of bootlegs of whatever they have to sell you. Or days-worth of explaining on social media that it was inspired by doom and quake and not 40K after the news leaked out. All the while CGL themselves gave it 40000 product number.
There is stupidity, and then there is CGL handling of Gothic.
>>96241496You'd still expect at least ONE of the six yiffers in that chat to manage to avoid using a contraction, but every one of them uses at least one contraction. At least them having furrier names than a literal furry smut RP chat is in character for fucking clanners. Blake was right and CGL should be nuked for their crimes in assisting the tubebabbies.
>>96241536>inspired by doom and quake and not 40KThe fuck? Neither doom nor quake are "gothic" in any sense!
I mean it's not like cgl got anywhere within spitting distance of a "gothic" aesthetic mind you, but the IDEA they are going for is 110% 40k and there is no mistaking it, that they failed miserably doesn't alter that.
I wonder to what extent there were clanners who on encountering the inner sphere and failing to take Terra were like, damn, maybe our way of life isn't actually superior? Are there a bunch of ex-clanners who are won over by dezgra things like family, having a culture outside of war and not dying before you are thirty. You've got pov characters who went over to the clans (Phelan Kell the foul traitor), but outside of the Dragoons who were in the inner sphere for decades, are there other examples of proud warriors of Kerensky going native?
>>96241562>doom nor quake are "gothic"Both had gothic environments.
>>96241588Oh yes I recall the vast sprawling cathedrals of Final Doom, that game totally didn't occur in tunnels and research bases.
You don't know what the fuck gothic even is, who the fuck gave you permission to post? Get the fuck out, go take a piss and then stick your head in the toilet.
>>96241587A lot of them are background characters. Wolf Hunters has a bunch of clanners that break with Annie K when she goes full retard, even more full retard than attacking Terra with 2 battalions of mechs. One goes to Solaris where he becomes a contender and falls in love with an infantry girl. Another is an Elemental that joins a mercenary company with her nova and seduces the fuck out of the commander. She literally sets up a romantic picnic disguised as a spy mission because she read about it in romance novels.
There's another classic one in the DA where there's a massive guy who is the son of a JF Elemental that invaded Skye in the Jihad and was like "No. Fuck this solahma stuff. I'm gonna 9ft cottage-core with this farmer who thinks he's a mountain climber."
This sort of thing was the norm. It's only in ilClan do you see vast swaths of the population suddenly start going "Gee, being a clanner is fucking great!" It's the absolute worst part of them trying to round off the edges of how shit and alien clanner society is. Especially doing it in the Border Protectorate where the Iron Guard are from. Jesus Fucking Christ, it's so retarded.
Well, other than absolute shithole periphery worlds that are comparable to the Kluster. I remember the dudes on Apollo still being like I CHALLENGE YOU TO A TRIAL OF BULLSHIT! even after the Clanners left. But then, the Falcons were always the best at converting their worlds, and were the only ones who didn't really stop and make their little enclaves like the Bears.
Is three centurions in a force too many? I'm just really loving the PGI shield on them right at the moment.
I'd have done more if I could have found more good poses.

>>96241587There's a couple who went to the Brotherhood of Randis, one of them became the grandmaster of the whole group. There's a mercenary company called Raging Horde that was originally entirely made of ex-clan elementals. They've allowed IS BA and APC drivers to join them, but still maintain some clan ideas like trials for positions and grievances even while they take money for service.
>>96241654It'd be interesting to see a band of apostate Clanners who hated the clans more than anyone else, campaigning for the annihilation of clan society, opposing integration and peace treaties, going door to door handing out pamphlets about sibko child abuse and slavery and shaking hands with anti-clan politicians on television.
>>96241738I'd like to see it from the freebirth lower castes and the faildowns.

Then you see an elemental faildown turning wrenches on ASF's being like "Yeah, they said I was too good with tech and didn't have enough killer instinct, so here I am for the rest of my fucking life!"

>>96241694>>96241828>>96241613>>96241662Gothic in this context is used to refer to dark fantasy, sometimes called gothic fantasy.
In aesthetic this refers to games such as hexen, quake, diablo, dark souls, thief, etc.
It doesn't need arches and complicated architecture, it's not about gothic architecture, it's about theme and a vague, grim-medievalish aesthetic. "Gothic" in this sense is just used to refer to something as "barbaric and medieval".
Apparently there are old mistakes in anniversary TRO3025.

>>96241774That's Ultimate Doom not Final Doom
>>96242148The role is that I had so much fun painting my flying circus scheme on the fortress that I decided to make it exclusively for the flying circus and so I've got 11 mechs and 6 combat vehicles to be added to it.
And at first I did have just one centurion but then I had a print failure on a wolfhound and a phoenix hawk, took that as a sign and re-examined my options which had me realize I was really looking forward to doing something with the shield on the centurion and more of those would be great for painting.
I figure they are a good generic medium to take with most any of my other mechs, or just all by themselves with the 4 hetzers and 2 LRM carriers.

It seems like every other enemy we fight brings a lot of stupid hover tanks, swingy weapons like UAC20s are all over the place, and the speed scale is out of whack with tons of XL engines all over the place. >upgrade the large laser to a PPC
>replace the LRM with two SRM-6s
>Armor and heat sinks go unchanged
So far this reconfiguration is slightly cheaper in BV, the same for PV, and still has the ammo bomb problem but it's 3025 so what are you gonna do.

>>96244732And we now have the formula to binary any laser system. Same heat as two, same crits as two, damage is 1.5 times (round down), weight is 90% (round down).
So if you blazed two large pulse lasers it would be 13 tons (12.6, but only half ton increments, so 13), 4 crits, 20 heat, 13 damage, 3/7/10 range, pulse benefits. Hot garbage.
>>96244778Sorry, 90% round up to nearest half ton. Everything has to be rounded in whichever way is less beneficial, because this is sidegradetech.
>>96244784I mean do you want Clan-spec "everything we have is just better, no we don't think this needs balance" because that's how we got Clan-spec and now FOUR Balance Systems trying to accommodate it.
>>96244778>blazed LPL does 13 damage >Hot garbageNot entirely true. It's IS tech that can headcap, and won't explode like a gauss rifle
I'm not saying it's good, I am saying it's the exact same argument people use to justify the OG blazer.
The new light blazer cannot make this argument however, so that weapon is hot dogshit in the purest form.
>>96243625No ejected mechwarrior is safe from her fury.
>>96244817A regular Blazer does 12 damage at longer range for marginally less heat, and it's still widely considered pretty bad. The bonus to hit is nice, but the shortened range bands offset it most of the time.
>>96244817The light blazer has the benefit of being inefficient on a small scale. You're only wasting one ton and one or two heat sinks on it. As long as you aren't boating them it's no worse than having an unused C3S or random mpulse in a cluster of regular mlas. Most designs can afford a little bit of inefficiency and still be good. One regular Blazer represents a massive investment of tonnage and sinkage, and the theoretical BiPlazer would be even more.
>>96244778Blazers seem to be a thing only done by the IS, but there's nothing that says you can't apply it to Clan lasers is there? Like, if you used C-ERMLs as a base, that'd give you a Clan Light Blazer that's:
2 tons, 2 crits, 10/10 heat and damage. That's basically a PPC that loses 3 hexes of range but has no minimum range.

Sidegrade or worse is the name of the game, and this goes strictly in the worse category.
>>96245716Oh, and the true Biblazer with 4 laser cores is 32 heat, 18 tons, 8 crits, and 15 damage.
>>96245693>>96245716>>96245720Gentlemen, let's ask the real question. Why the fuck can't we fire in single core mode to control heat like the original infantry version? It would make the Blazer so much more versatile!
>>96245720wouldn't it be 18 damage?
>>96245740I do not understand your math
>>96245751Standard Blazer does 12. It's two large lasers that would each do 8, 12-8=4 so the second one does 4. That's half damage. Non-clan, non-mainstream weapons are not allowed to be good, and pulse lasers do more damage because they pulse and allow the cloud of ablative armor to dissipate, so we put those two ideas together and each core adds half of the previous core. 8+4+2+1+.5 (round down to 0)
>>96245736How would it get to 18? Even if you did 8+4+4+4 that would be 20.
>>96245766>they pulse and allow the cloud of ablative armor to dissipateAnd thr Blazer explicitly doesn't. It fires both cores at the same point at the same time. There's no delay between them, so any armor reaction is in full swing against both.
>>96245772NTA but I see where he got 18. If the formula is multiplying damage by 1.5, and Blazer damage is 12, that makes 18.
>>96245716That's just an Improved Heavy Large Laser
>>96245785That would make a light quazer do 10 then? Maybe, but it's optimistic given how things are made here.

>>96245996>Wait...if the armor on Battlemechs is so amazing. Why do regular ass machine guns deal damage to it?Well if it's ablative, that probably means the repetitive impacts of sustained automatic fire can effectively "rattle" bits of it off.
Remember a BattleTech round is ten seconds in Real Time, and thus ten seconds of sustained automatic fire from at least a squad at a singular location.

Newbie here needing clarification - I've mainly played with IS mechs, so have been told that with an IS XL engine, if the side torso craps out, all those Engine slots or last, so the mech is dead. And on a regular IS mech, engine crits can kill the mech, or cause heat gain before you get there.
So for Clanners, with their smaller XL engines - if I destroy the side torso on a Clanner, do they still act like those two engine slots were "crit" - like, fill in the bubbles on the sheet, and gain the heat each turn for two engine crits? and then even 1 more engine crit on the remaining side torso or CT is game over?
>>96247658Yes, for clanner losing side torso is 2 engine crits, for IS 3.
>>96247658Yep, and it's exactly the same with an Inner Sphere Light engine (2 crits per side torso, less weight savings than an XL) as with a Clan XL engine.
On the rare engine side, this also means the clan XXL, with 4 crits per side torso, dies on side torso loss like the IS XL and XXL (6 crits per side torso).
The only exception is superheavies because they compact their crits to half normal (rounded up), but those crits still only ACT like one normal crit. So a superheavy only dies instantly on side torso loss if it has an IS XXL in there, otherwise it will have at most 2 crits in the side torso (and the accompanying +10 heat).

>>96249299>so the fuck is it for? Tactical combat with the RPG?
>>96250204The rpg is designed to play with the standard 6mm miniatures. It's also meant for you to use mechs, not infantry.
Played the third game of our Rasalhague 3034-campaign yesterday.
The terrain greatly favoured my opponent (Mapsheets rolled were Mountain Lake - Battletech ), allowing for them to basically set up a firebase on the mountain and pummel my approaching 'mechs.
The scenario was 7500 BV, both forces had to bring one Assault 'mech and deploy it before their other forces. Game lasts 8 turns and is decided via points, with points given via
-50 points for crippled/destroyed enemy 'mech
-50 points for destroyed/retreated enemy assault 'mech
-1 point per point of damage dealt by your Assault 'mech (caps at 125 points).
So obviously my opponents Awesome pummeled maximum points from dealing damage, while I managed to take down a Panther as it got a bit too exposed, ammo exploded his Orion, but lost the Hunchback who valiantly charged across open terrain to get up close, and my Marauder got crippled via engine damage.
So on the final turn, my Banshee has been hanging back because fuck trying to get across an open field, taking potshots here and there. I've effectively lost the mission. My opponent decides to jump back with his remaining Panther and Wolverine so I can't get lucky shots at them. The Awesome is overheating and stays still in the Heavy Forest it had been camping in all game. I shoot at the Awesome with everything I have in the hopes of a TAC or like, nothing but CT hits.
An AC/10 and a PPC hit. Pic related shows the hit location rolls.
The Carmine Company salvaged an almost-pristine Awesome after that game...
>>96250563Nice exciting game!

>>96250247>It's also meant for you to use mechs, not infantry. The RPG has rules for non-Mech combat, friend.
>>96252202I notice you worded your statement here in such a way as to dance around my own.

>>96252444MW1e and 2e make it clear that you're expected to be fighting in Mechs (which is why all of the 2e scenarios have random Mech combat for no reason).
3e at AToW are much more infantry-oriented.
>>96251291You can do that in any military drop ship using the equipment in the mech transport bay. The exact nature of spare parts isn't usually tracked, but it's safe to assume units will bring what they need to repair all normal battle damage.
>>96252565And you can also attach structure from other mechs that weigh the same without it actually counting as a frankenmech for rules purposes. When you have to mismatch internal structure weights is when things get awkward.
so...uh...does a union loaded with 12 mechs have any extra space to haul combat vehicle companies?
>>96252825No. It barely even has enough space to hold extra consumables like armor and ammo for the mechs. You could replace some of the bays with vehicle bays if you wanted to, but it's at maximum capacity by default.
