You could try the Allsync under Genre > Modernesque as those are set in the current year or close to it. There's a good, albeit nsfw but not totally focused on that, Pulp/action one set in the real world by AlternateAccountFour called An Extraordinary Voyage CYOA that's pretty good and nowhere near godlike.
Strife had a few that might fit that bill... one of them was a multiversal adventure where you start out weak and gain powers as you hop worlds to defeat the big bad who's after you.

Superpowers in a modern setting is kind of gay since we know how physics works and shadows aren’t solid, you can’t move or run too fast without killing yourself, etc.

Keep it to entirely original worlds, so that way you can at least assume “it works a bit differently here I guess”.

You know I’m right too.

Depends on the physics. The most base of physics, no, absolutely not. The purest of physics can’t be ignored by fiction. The realm of fiction itself came out of our own observations of logical reality.

But we might be able to simulate a world or reality that works like a video game.

Tough shit. You can’t even separate or remove causality from fiction, since storytelling is a consequence of causality, lol. It’s about as retarded as trying to separate or remove math from anything, even fictional. It cannot be done.

This isn’t an attack on your escapism. It’s even beautiful to consider all the endless ways for your mind to perceive reality. It’s made by this logic. Is fiction not fun because of all the variety and exoticism it allows? It is. It is fun.

Of course you can. Stories violate causality in-universe all the time without breaking real-world physics, because the cause of whatever effect exists outside of the story. Or even without that, it's very easy to add some line in the middle of the story afterwards that necessarily can't have changed the latter parts. It will change the reader's interpretation of it, sure, and I think that's what you're trying to explain far too vaguely.

There IS a point where a given simulated reality might just be… a dream…

Ask yourself how dreams could ever be a thing. It allows for imagination to manifest through your perception, no one else’s.

But perhaps a dream simulation could be shared, even if it’s not truly shared. What if two people both dream a dream that is incorporating the narratives of the other’s dream? Two separate dreams, sharing a singular narrative. This does bed the talk of free will, thobeitfully.
Anonymous No.96306337
>>96306312
>Of course you can.
Nope. Is anything happening in a story? It is causal. Physics/reality runs on it. If not, then, nothing happens at all.

>Stories violate causality in-universe all the time
An author is freely capable of writing into his works his own ignorance. If an author writes something like “and so, math never existed…”, then he’s flat out wrong about that. Even total nothing, is a one, by such a point.

Imagine you finally met the isekai goddess, made your build and is ready to jump into your fantasy world. However, the goddess reminds you that you have a family in the real world, and that they are going to get worried if you disappear out of nowhere. Would you rather:
>option 1
Fuck them, just get into the next world without doing anything about it.
>option 2
Leave a perfect replica body of yourself in your room, making your family think that you simply had a sudden heart failure and died in your sleep.
>option 3
Have the goddess cast a spell that wipes out any memory of you, like if you never existed at all.

Option 1 is heartless.
Option 2 leaves them sad.
Option 3 sounds better overall but there's the fact that family members would notice things like an extra bedroom, or how they did things without your help (computers, taking care of grandma or whatever), which is a slight horror theme on it's own.
Option 4 YMMV, some people may be happy knowing their loved one may lead a long happy life or mad that they left them without support.

Best option would be to have a (living) clone of yourself that doesn't know about your isekai shit.

Anyway, this is like asking about the king's tax policy before picking an option.

I'm late as I had to retype everything about the summary because pastebin reloaded on me.

But overall, I plan on having Mage be focused on (You) and to your journey's end as a Mage. Whether you end up at the pinnacle of magecraft as only of the few color ranked Whites on the super continent, or you end up finding another path to pursue, it's all up to the destiny you decide. You will fill-in how your life goes in a land where mage clash and exert themselves at the top.

Additionally: You can find female elf mages as romance options. Though they will be the hardest romance requiring a minimum of 8 to 10 years of coupling time before marrying you.

Here is the rundown to save text: https://pastebin.com/MS86nuST
I believe the CYOA will be very well-received just from all that content and focus.

>>96306041
Actually, from my observations over the years and reading the builds of others. The majority of players/readers engage with a CYOA straight forward manner; often following the laid out rules, and picking the average challenge level over the easiest + most overpowered difficulty options. This isn't to say it doesn't happen, but most, especially for their first build will play the CYOA as it is intended and in second builds they go with more min-maxing and themes.

I've heard similar arguments in those horrible trash magic vs. science threads.
Those people are fucking subhuman, almost totally. On both sides, too, lest you think I'm playing favorites. Just manchildren shrieking at each other, not listening, just ignoring what the other side is saying and making gay strawmen twinned with empty truisms, as if that's some kind of gotcha. You need to stop seething and let it go, fuck.
I don't believe in acausal fiction magic either, but yapping about the existence of mathematics also makes you sound like some fart-sniffing redditor. May as well just start preaching about how you heckin' love science and that means God can't exist in fantasy settings either. Telling people about the truth of the Auspices (presumably with convincing evidence), spreading a doomsday cult, and being seemingly unkillable are reason enough to be branded Overlord.

>her secrets driving people mad
Are they being driven mad? Not my interpretation of what was happening, at least. I think people are convinced that the end is nigh and are thus despairing.

>if the secrets were ones that the gods don't want known, they wouldn't set it up
She doesn't tell people about the making of the gods. She tells people not to seek to know about it.

Maybe, but unlikely. If anything can break her composure, it is this. FF:SHUSAI destroys so many notions everyone thinks to be true and is potentially world ending.
>1. of Mana yet above it
>2. meeting MANA-YOOD-SUSHAI
>3. MANA does something
>4. THE END will not end everything.
1. will be reacted with likely curiosity and perhaps confusion from scholar. Whatever. 2., 3., and 4. however are insane.

First, MANA waking up is THE END, which is why any contact with him is absolutely forbidden and not even praying to him is allowed. You didn't wake him up, thankfully, but it's the closest he's gotten to waking up. Second, he made an exception for you. Huge cosmological significance. Seemingly never happened before. And why you, not the gods of Pegana or anything else?

Second, if the existence of FF:SHUSAI is spread around, you just know that people will try to replicate it. Fat chance of MANA making an exception for them as well, but it might just wake MANA and bring about THE END.

The choices are seemingly offered by the old gods. They would have no reason to offer her as a choice if she has secrets they want kept secret. The making of the gods and the making of man are the things you reference, but they relate to the old gods, not the Auspices(who aren't in the book), and are secrets the old gods want kept secret. Besides the making of the Auspices isn't quite so secret, as there is ample evidence that the elves know, and that various demons do as well.
>Ranorada in JRPG Traitor is "actually a small inland sea in Uramag
All the more reason what she says has nothing to do with the Auspices. They were made in Sidith, with no connection to such a distant land. Suggesting the secrets she knows aren't about them.

This isn't to say that the making of the gods has nothing to do with what she knows, but what she knows can only be something that the old gods don't mind her knowing, and potentially sharing. At most they are vaguely related, which is like a lot of things between the book and the cyoa.

I'd say that narratively FF:SHUSAI is a perfect inclusion to any builds that take the Loose End or Last Steps Endings. While the entire Overlord situation was being dealt with, you used it in pursuit of an impossible goal far beyond the conflict you were involved in, that you achieved. FF:RULER, the Pseudoarchon makes sense for those too in a similar way, but I like FF:SHUSAI for it more.

>The choices are seemingly offered by the old gods.
The gods don't control everything about the cyoa. See: the events that break the fate of being a Traitor. Otherwise, they would just force you and there would be no cyoa.

I believe the existence of the cyoa is a result of the old gods' meddling, but the specific choices themselves are not. The Overlords are people who have the possibility of taking up the role, and you get to pick who truly becomes Overlord. Because of the existence of the fate defying events, I don't believe that old gods can block a possible Overlord from being picked.

Maybe the old gods know about the content in the cyoa, maybe they even skewed things to be favorable to them, but they certainly cannot control its entirety.

>They would have no reason to offer her as a choice if she has secrets they want kept secret.
This also runs into the issue of (You) knowing a shit ton of secrets. Why pick you? Perhaps they didn't pick you, perhaps the choice of who gets picked to become the Traitor is not in their control.

>the making of the Auspices isn't quite so secret, as there is ample evidence that the elves know, and that various demons do as well

Oftentimes security, probably. People don't just chase power to do as they want. They also want it to feel safe. They take the view of the cyoa as something happening to them when build making, thus they pursue power to survive and do well. Though also yes, they want to enforce their will.

Essentially it's a matter of fundamental perspective, their suspension of disbelief takes a different shape than yours. They treat the build making part itself as part of the challenge, something their reacting to with the assumption that they're... Hmm "In character" picking. I don't like that phrasing but I don't know how else to put it. Creating the most powerful build IS the game. And of course just classic wish forfillment,
I suppose.
For me personally it depends on the cyoa, I honestly like reaching for power. Though it's usually aiming for weird methods since I like creating entirely new paths to power by twisting stuff or taking it as far as possible. That's fair. I usually alternate depending on the cyoa and inspiration. Sometimes I'll make a character and sometimes it'll be a self insert. Sometimes it's more fun to treat the cyoa itself as part of the game and sometimes it's more fun to create a character. In cyoa's like Scion (the one where you're a giant noble), I found myself making a character.

Grim setting, sure, but that doesn't make it misery wank. The "misery" is referring to the player (otherwise we would be talking about how grim the setting is and not misery wank), and the player is not miserable at all. You can get 1 or 2 magics at max, revive one of the strongest (and only) mages in existence (he can, by his lonesome, match the worldwide evil organization and only died of old age) in his prime to help you, and gain the skills of the most illustrious people in history. You don't even have to hide if you don't want to. Fighting the worldwide evil organization directly is viable if you build for it.

no idea how good numerology is but I choose to trust it making my magic more reliable being worth it

>BASIC UNITS: workers
>JOURNEYMAN UNITS: craftsman, knight, mage, wraith
>EXPERT UNITS: all
this suffers from the same problem as michan's dark lord cyoa, I would rather have as small army of very strong units than a large one of weak units, and as the prices are the same I'm going full experts

>HEROES: king, archmage, sage
one for crafts, one for martials and one for magic seems balanced enough
I also agree with >>96311342 in that the heroes are supposed to be unique units but the are treated as generic too

I don't want to sound mean but I don't really see the 'unique spin' anywhere, sure it's in a different setting but the powers and sections are still extremely similar and sometimes lacking in content/flavour (especially the type of lord section)
and finally a tip, big lore dumps are best avoided by sprinkling it in your playable sections, maybe the martial mechanics would be better put in an exclusive section for martial lord to choose their martial form, same with magic lord and magic mechanics, etc.

>Heroes:

Titan Lord definitely feels the most boring outta the group since you can't really do any cool stuff with the systems in the setting and rely on brute force, but it beats every other option in appeal because why wouldn't I want to be a towering figure of might and magical energy? I think the best race for Titan Lord would probably be Angel since getting a religion going when you are superhumanly huge and dominating in sheer strength seems pretty easy, and that'll scale up your already enormous strength to even higher levels. Elf seemed cool just to become a torrential tide of elemental energy, even if its just for a minute.

Also feels like we get way too many options for units despite the fact that every tier has an upgrade for the base choice, its really just a decision between quantity vs quality as you'll be perfectly fine opting to ignore the low quality units and scrounge for the higher end. I could've opted for getting even more Expert units and less Journeyman as they'll essentially pay for themselves when they get up and running as its only sacrificing versatility at the start, but I didn't care too much about optimizing a build for something simple.

>Actually, BTG/GiftedAnon specifically wrote Animus to be misery porn (which he pointed out multiple times around the release), which is why he kept making it harder and harder to save the narrator with subsequent revisions. And even he was (pleasantly) surprised with how it turned into more of an epic-ly dark fantasy adventure.
That's a half truth. The pivot from "doomed struggle" to "revenge fantasy" happened during the writing, not post-release. I only made two major balance tweaks post launch. One was making saving the narrator more expensive, because I'd underestimated how good she was in practical terms and as such saving her wasn't a sacrifice like it should have been, it was a net benefit in a lot of cases. The other was making the "you can't just stand and fight and take every item and power in the game" protection more absolute since one of the most common builds prior to that was "I take everything" which sort of negates the point of a CYOA with point buy.

Shut the fuck up, 1 is trash. 2 and maybe 4 are the only valid ones. 3 if there are no human ears under the hair.

Not even being contrarian, 1 just looks creepy as hell. Besides, why would you even want a second set of ears that likely have worse hearing?

Aside from being fugly and inferior, you also need hearing protection for both pairs when it's necessary. You need to care for the hygiene and health of both as well, which is pointless extra work.

>This will be italic's masterpiece
I thought people thought Magi Case was my masterpiece. But more seriously, I do think Mage will do well since it's not completely fantasy like living in a medieval period and there are multiple endgames for you to aim for in deciding your fate ranging from acquiring the highest color rank as a mage, climbing military ranks, becoming the greatest duelist of your era, leading a Demon as one of their great Lords, etc.

I also believe those who are interested in powersystems will be satisified with having access to a vast array of magical spells and systems to make themselves stand out.

I would think of adding multiplayer, but I never really had an experience doing such a thing. I'm also limited in experience with making a balanced point system.

>elf seggs
Elf seggs is only limited to 3 companions unforunately. Elf population is at 1m in-universe and Human-Elf marriage onky makes up 7% of all elf marriages and only 20% of those marriages are Human Male and Female Elf. So if you marry one of the elf girls, you get to be special in a way.

Dying in Animus is particularly stupid because your soul is fucked and you don't even get to die properly anyway. You get non-existence unless you have outside help like you can give to the narrator, and even if you do get help your soul is ruined and you can't go onto your next life like you should have been able to. Personally I have quite an opposing theological view to her, cause I don't really care about the soul. I primarily care about the preservation of the mind. If my mind is gonna be erased from the soul why should I care about it, its just material. Like it would be the same as if my corpse atoms were used to make a new baby, that not going to be me, that is a whole new person. The same is with reincarnation if its erasing my mind, that won't be a continuation of me that will just be some new guy using my old soul material. So in my eyes, getting turned into the doll actually saved me from erasure. I don't even mind the guild that much if they weren't fucking idiots, why use these dolls as slaves, when you can give yourself immortal bodies and with tremendous wizard powers, they could be pumping out these uber wizard from their workshops with their magic attunement machines.

Ah, this one is an old favourite of mine. Thank you for reposting it. I've always thought it was underrated, it seriously has it all- a stat system, interesting classes, a variety of waifus full of personality, and world boss esque enemies to fight them with. I figure it's not polished enough for the modern CYOA audience. No matter, I'm here, and I can make a build!

By gambling, because I live for the rush of not knowing what's next. That's the same reason I love fighting people. You never know exactly what is going to happen when you get on the mat. There's a cathartic exultation of human endurance that happens when two men come together with violence in their hearts, and there's something uniquely and impossibly beautiful about that.

Pretty sure Hrooulf, the original guy who basically made the connection between our worlds, was basically wanting to head down that path. The technology just wasn't there yet, and people who saw his work and continued it decided that the best use of another world's souls was to shove them into a puppet to perform menial tasks forever. Yeah they are pretty stupid. Because they were put into slave jobs like that no one really knows the potential of souls that don't have a mortal body because why would you teach your maid doll how to shoot out fire, magic only belongs in the hands of the regulated few.

Then a villain will fuck you up to show he is a threat so the new hero can beat him. If you decide to be a villain then you will get your ass beat by a hero.

>you will get fucked
Paranoia. There's no guarantee shit will happen. It's 100 years until the next outsider anyway, and there's no guarantee the system will pick you for anything, or that the outsider will put you in their build, and even if they do they might just scribble "he has hot sex with me and makes me his wife and and we both become gods" in the margins or some shit, which is annoying but doesn't actually interfere with your work.

Question how old is the oldest elf companion in the CYOA? I think only like 600, if you aren't a MC someone can gank yo ass. You aren't unbeatable others can do what you do. As a person all you are doing is assuring that your death will be violence by someone murdering you or some idiot doing a charlotte?

You don't have any special main character narrative as an outsider such simplistic mindset will screw you over, it already happened, the previous outsider Keter thought she was the MC and as you can see the whole hero complex didn't really work out for her. You only have the guaranteed fates you get from the outsider system the gods can't contradict them like your companions, mentors, youth events and death but they can mess around with everything else.

Yes if you don't falsely ascend and take one of the pillars the next outsider can most likely mess around with your fate but something like true live will be less effective as you will know that these feelings are artificial and will be able to react accordingly.

Charlie technically developed an afterlife already via Evdokia.

Oh you can kill a death sloted character too if you are powerful enough and have all-glumpse or some other magic shit to figure out their specific death. You can just orchestrate that specific fate scenario and kill the fucker. But even if you can't kill them you can fuck their shit cripple them, torture them, drive them insane to the fates it doesn't really matter in what state they reach their determined death they can be a brain in a vat for all it cares as long as they die the right way.

Well yes but that's much harder brain in a vat was not around in the 1600's. If someone is fated to die in a massive battle. You won't be able to poison them.

clever word play. But when you get shot, it's not lead poisoning that kills you, it's either shock, damage to vital organs, or blood loss.
